escapist videos

is it just me? or do the escapist videos seem to load much more quickly than other sites?

I've noticed this too, I never have any problems loading an escapist video of six minutes but have had problems loading a youtube clip of one minute.

They have just added a new video format HTML-5 or something like that. It is supposed to start buffering a video the moment the page loads instead of when you press play I believe.

Don't quote me on that though.

We use Akamai to host our videos, who are pretty much the best global file hosting service in existence. Thankfully, we have a friend that works there, and were able to get a pretty good deal (It doesn't hurt that we transfer terabytes of video every month). The server you connect to to get a video will be based on your location and ISP, but on average, everyone should have a pretty nice connection to a video hosting server.

Some ISPs also have direct connections to Akamai file hosting servers, which makes them load extra-fast for their customers (and saves the ISPs money). I don't know which ones though.

I've noticed it's better than most sites. Not sure about Youtube, but I'm not quite the Youtube lover many people are.

Maybe because they don't have as many? Youtube has millions, and escapist has a couple thousand, tops.

Or the video-player is just better.

Yeah, I have never had a problem with "The escapist". I have never had a problem with the videos from "Giant bomb" either, but that could be because both of these sites see lower traffic than say, "Youtube" or my internet might just not like "Youtube" as much as the two aforementioned sites, or it could be that the sites are better maintained.
Actually, when I think about it, when I am trying to watch videos on the NHL website it can take a long time to load but my internet is not the best, or it could be something to do with the site itself.
