I am working on an assignment for a web development course, and I was checking my web pages to make sure the code was valid using the W3 Validator . Out of curiosity I put in the escapist's address, and saw that it failed the validation test.

Now I'm new to web development, and so can someone tell me if there's any reason why the escapist wouldn't be valid (e.g a limitation of the validator, laziness, etc). To be honest the only reason I check my pages' validity is that if they are not 100% XHTML compliant then they won't be graded.

Isn't it W3C? I had to do this as well not long ago. Um. There are loads of official websites that have tons of errors. In fact, it's pretty rare to find one that doesn't.

A lot of sites are written for compatibility with IE6, which has funny ideas about web standards.
