The recent release of Arkham Asylum has promted a number of threads to be posted about Batman, and the Joker, couple that with people still posting about the movie Dark Knight, and you have a lot of people commenting on a popular comic book hero.
While not everyone is clueless about Batman, an overwhelming amount of people, simply don't know or have misconceptions about the super hero.
So, Lets clear up some of the more popular wrong ideas:
1. " Batman should be light hearted or funny, and the 'dark, brooding, attitude' is new."
This is totally wrong. The comic was originally intended to be dark and full of murder, in it's day it was considered extremely violent and the subject matter was sometimes risque. It wasn't until the Adam West television show that Batman went retarded. This is because the man behind that show hated comic books and set out to do the worst job he could. ( This is true, look it up if you don't believe me) The comic book was changed to reflect the television show, and so millions of people got the idea that Batman should be stupid.
2. " Christian Bale's Batman voice is a stupid insert into the Dark Knight."
If you don't like the sound of his voice in the movie, fine, it's your opinion and you're entitled to it. BUT, you should understand why that voice is in the movie. In the comic's Batman has frequently employed a "Bat" voice, which is significally more gritty and lower than his normal "Wayne" voice. He does this because, aside from making his voice harder to recognize, it also strikes a bit of theatrical fear into the hearts of criminals.
3. " The Joker is responsible for Batman's parents being killed"
In the comics, little is established about the Joker's origin, name, or even mental status. BUT, Batman's history is pretty well known. Batman's parents were killed by a common thug named 'Joe Chill'. The concept that the Joker was involved is largly due to Tim Burton's Batman movie.
That's all for now, but understand this, Batman cannon is in the comics, not the movies. While comic's constantly change, and many are written after a new movie or show has established a new "popularity" for the character, the Batman mythos has, and always will be in the comics.
So let's hear from you. What questions do you have about Batman? Those of us who are comic book fans, what other misconceptions do you frequently see posted/hear about Batman?
P.S. I know that I am a huge comic book geek. But, everyone has something that they are a fan of.
