I work at a video game store where we deal mostly in older used merchandise finding difficult to locate games and recently a young man traded in a host of really rare games in mint condition. 3 copies of Final Fantasy 7, black label, with instruction manual, the entire RE series, black label. Perfect Dark for the 64 never opened, etc. etc.

I had a copy of most of this stuff, so priced it all normal like and went through the motion and then I came across a game I'd heard of but never seen - Eternal Darkness, Sanity's Requiem for the GC.

Now I know this game is supposed to be pretty good, so I picked it up at the sticker price= 20 bucks Canadian. As a benefit of working at the store though, I can get my money back for the next week or so. I haven't had time to play it with exams going on and I'm wondering if I made the right decision. Is this game one that stands the test of time, or is it just a cult classic that won't have any appeal without the nostalgia to back it up?

It's a pretty fun game. The insanity effects are my favorite part. Though I'm a bit biased as Survival Horror is my favorite genre overall.

Seeing your TV 'Mute' when nobody is around is creepy. Creepy awesome.

I'd say you made a good choice there. I"m sure many people will agree with that statement. The game plays out as sort of a mystery horror with many unique characters that keep the game fresh. With each chapter/scenario you get a new experience in the same game universe. My favorite chapter was..
..playing the plagued boy in the Church in France. Trying to save your king as you slowly succumbed to the infection. The best part is, you get to fight this character as a zombie later on in the game. :D

It's good; but bear in mind that one of the choices early in the game determines the difficulty setting. And that it does this without actually telling you. Leading to frustration when you accidentally pick the hardest difficulty setting and find that you basically have to restart the game as you are sick of dying so often. Though to get the 'true' ending you do have to play through all three settings.

As a hint; Red = Hard, Green = Medium, Blue = Easy.

Definately worth the money, even if you never play it. Its cool trying to piece everying to gether in a real timeline and not how the game plays out. Its got a little of that Pulp Fiction syndrome, so that's what makes it cool. The battle system is a little odd though. Once you get used to it though, its kinda easy. You learn what parts of each enemy to attack first so it can't fight back. In that respect, it gets a little repetative.
