While it wasn't OMG-THE-BEST-SHO-EVAH, I always felt it was a SOLID 'C'.

And, lets face it, one of the best things to come out of Sci-Fi Channel's 'original programing'.
-Yes, I'm counting those horrid movies they make, which have ALL sucked.

I'm sorry, but you'll excuse us if the responses are a bit lackluster. Most people tend to avoid 'Siffy' nowadays, at least until it learns how to spell. So, you'll understand if I don't know anything about the show you are talking about.

It came out pretty close to the same time as the BSG remake, except where BSG took itself entirely too seriously, Eureka didn't take itself seriously enough. Something about it just didn't click with me, like it was less a show aimed at science fiction fans and more a show aimed at people who hated sci-fi but were for some reason okay with the occasional sci-fi element in a show that was otherwise in a completely different genre, if that makes any sense.

So, yeah, I've seen a few episodes, and I'm still not too terribly upset about this. More surprised that it was still going.

Since you kinda' bring it up: Explain to me what brilliant plan was in the works when they decided to put ANY non-science-fiction programming on a channel dedicated to science fiction.

Very simple: super cheap content that appeals to the lowest common denominator. It's the same reason that MTV no longer shows music, and Cartoon Network had a brief but ill fated love affair with live action shows. TV Tropes refers to it as "Network Decay," and it's happening pretty much everywhere on cable.

I found it entirely to predictable of a show to bother watching. Like 10 min in and you know what is going to happen for the rest of the show. Not to say it was bad it was just predictable. I did watch The Twilight Zone as a kid so that might have something to do with it.

Ah, I see. It makes sense. I mean, I know that - naturally - the answer more or less led to 'people are stupid', effectively, but it's still important to know WHY it is the case. Thank you.

Syfy has become equivalent of MTV and G4, in that they hardly have anything to do with what they originally were known for....and all their current shows are 99% garbage.

Never watched the show though. The trailers made me just go "what in the fuck is this......".

That's it. Network decay. Thank you.

I thought a new season was coming out or did it already happen and I missed it?

Well I guess I'm the only other person here who liked the show? I agree with your assessment on it. I never thought it was amongst the best TV shows but it was fun (even if a bit formulaic) and entertaining.

Syfy kind of just surprised everyone at the beginning of this year and said season 5 would be the last. At least they mitigated it by ordering one more episode to the already 12 episode season in order to give the show better closure.

It was the only scifi show I could get into.
firefly, fringe, battlestar, andromeda....all to spacey for my taste and always serious.
Eureka was nice and grounded and had fun with its self.
Also really liked the premise of a small town populated by genius' with resources...what could go wrong?

Man... I remember back in '09 I was starting to see the decay of the general state of things when they cancelled Stargate: Atlantis, and now it seems like in the three years I spent minimally watching TV things have changed drastically. The thing is I stopped being surprised then, so there wasn't much shock when I saw the thread title. Still kind of a shame though. No reason to watch that channel anymore.

Good knowing you, Sci-Fi network, you changed your name and put on your traffic-cone-shaped dunce-cap and you smoked yourself retarded. Congratulations, you pretty much just shit on yourself. Great job.

Eureka was a decent show but nowhere near what the Sci-Fi channel use to produce. Still I enjoyed it and thought it ended well. Although I must admit a good bit of my amusement from the show was how badly they bludgeoned terminology.

As for the state of "Syfy" as a whole I'm saddened by its current state. It has very few shows worth watching still actively airing. I believe the only two I'm currently even remotely interested in are Eureka's sister shows Warehouse 13 and Alphas. Ever since they canceled the Stargate series my interest in that channel as waned to the point of non-existence. I still have no idea why they canceled Stargate Atlantis. I mean they wrapped it up nicely, but there was still a good bit of life left in that show. I understand why they canceled SG-1 as it had run its course, but Atlantis had another 2-3 seasons left of stuff to flesh out at least.

Don't even get me started on Stargate Universe.

I never really got into Eureka, and I would agree most of the programming on Syfy is pretty awful. But at least they somewhat attempt to make good television with their actual original TV shows (because lord knows all of their movies are awful). I mean, I don't know about you guys, but I find Warehouse 13 genuinely entertaining.

And good riddance I say.

The first 2... maybe three (before the .5 bullshit that came with season 3) seasons were good then decent.

But season 4 and 5... were god awful. I can barely sit through more than 5 minutes without the stupid ass felicia day loves fargo subplot making me go to american dad on Cartoon network. And their romance in season 4 was absofuckinglutly pointless. You could honestly fast forward through it and the plot would be fine.

ugh don't understand this love everyone has for felicia day...

However sad it is gone. Wish I'd watched it in 1 big chunk like my friends did.
