It came out pretty close to the same time as the BSG remake, except where BSG took itself entirely too seriously, Eureka didn't take itself seriously enough. Something about it just didn't click with me, like it was less a show aimed at science fiction fans and more a show aimed at people who hated sci-fi but were for some reason okay with the occasional sci-fi element in a show that was otherwise in a completely different genre, if that makes any sense.FalloutJack said:I'm sorry, but you'll excuse us if the responses are a bit lackluster. Most people tend to avoid 'Siffy' nowadays, at least until it learns how to spell. So, you'll understand if I don't know anything about the show you are talking about.
Since you kinda' bring it up: Explain to me what brilliant plan was in the works when they decided to put ANY non-science-fiction programming on a channel dedicated to science fiction.Owyn_Merrilin said:It came out pretty close to the same time as the BSG remake, except where BSG took itself entirely too seriously, Eureka didn't take itself seriously enough. So, yeah, I've seen a few episodes, and I'm still not too terribly upset about this. More surprised that it was still going.
Very simple: super cheap content that appeals to the lowest common denominator. It's the same reason that MTV no longer shows music, and Cartoon Network had a brief but ill fated love affair with live action shows. TV Tropes refers to it as "Network Decay," and it's happening pretty much everywhere on cable.FalloutJack said:Since you kinda' bring it up: Explain to me what brilliant plan was in the works when they decided to put ANY non-science-fiction programming on a channel dedicated to science fiction.Owyn_Merrilin said:It came out pretty close to the same time as the BSG remake, except where BSG took itself entirely too seriously, Eureka didn't take itself seriously enough. Ah, I see. It makes sense. I mean, I know that - naturally - the answer more or less led to 'people are stupid', effectively, but it's still important to know WHY it is the case. Thank you.Owyn_Merrilin said:Very simple: super cheap content that appeals to the lowest common denominator. I thought a new season was coming out or did it already happen and I missed it?Tanis said:While it wasn't OMG-THE-BEST-SHO-EVAH, I always felt it was a SOLID 'C'.
And, lets face it, one of the best things to come out of Sci-Fi Channel's 'original programing'.
-Yes, I'm counting those horrid movies they make, which have ALL sucked.
Well I guess I'm the only other person here who liked the show? I agree with your assessment on it. I never thought it was amongst the best TV shows but it was fun (even if a bit formulaic) and entertaining.Tanis said:While it wasn't OMG-THE-BEST-SHO-EVAH, I always felt it was a SOLID 'C'.

Syfy kind of just surprised everyone at the beginning of this year and said season 5 would be the last. At least they mitigated it by ordering one more episode to the already 12 episode season in order to give the show better closure.Zack Alklazaris said:I thought a new season was coming out or did it already happen and I missed it?
