The Eurovision 2011 songs have been released!

(Quick disclaimer before I go any further:
Yes the voting isn't very well balanced,
yes it's incredibly cheesy fun,
yes it's very very camp and finally,
yes it's not as good without Sir Terry providing commentary anymore.
However it's one of the most watched annual programs on the globe, it's just.. awful, but fun to watch!)

Anyway, to those who've seen this years videos, have you noticed the move away from the mega-camp videos of yore into some decent songs this year? I'm actually really liking the entry from Italy this year!

So what do y'all think of the crop of songs this year? Any favourites to win? (Dear god don't let it be Jedward)

Yeah Jedward are over in Eire, though to be fair, the UK is stuck with that band 'Blue' from the late '90s early '00s so I don't rate our chances.

Yeah it's in Germany this year, they won with Lena's 'Satellite' last year, she's having another go this year too but imo it isn't as good, especially with some songs like Italy and Finland etc. I'd love to go, but it's during my end of year exams. :(

One year, before i'm 30, i'd like the UK to win so we can host it and I can go! :p

If you do it, sir, you are a legend.

I hope Russia wins on the sheer merit of the eyecandy they provided between cuts last time.
She was nice.
I feel dirty now, listing that as a reason.

Eurovision:

One of the most accurate ways of determining current European political relationships.

even if we fronted up Hookers made of pure gold that had voices like angels and handed out blowjobs for free during the interval, we would still come.... last... likely due to Libya.

And yeah, Sir Terry made it what it was.

By 'we' I assume you mean France? They've been chaffing at the bit to get into Libya ASAP, the rest of the UN nations are really just providing support. Regardless, if we're going by relationships (since it's a public vote) the UK is the second most liked country in the globe this year, second to Germany! Hopefully this means the UK might win, even if our song isn't very good. :(

Italy are entering and have been given a guaranteed spot in the finals? That's a turn-up for the books considering they last entered in 1997. I probably won't be watching, Eurosong's just not the same any more without the Guinness-fuelled caustic ramblings of Sir Terry Wogan.

Last time I watched Eurovision I was drunk out of my mind. I'll most likely get drunk again because I can't see myself watching that horrible show without being under the influence of something.

Frankly it's become to political for me. I used to enjoy it when it was just silly. Now it's gone all serious.

Yeah, it's probably one of my 3 favourites this year too! I'll put their song up :)

Can I ask, how do they decide who to send in Ireland? I can't believe that Jedward won a popular vote in a competition? Were they just picked because they're notable? :S

I didn't realize it was that time of the year already.

Ehhh. It looks like we're sending something very dull to compete:

This year they had a competition with about 6 entries. The winner was decided by a combination of votes from "expert" panels around the country and a public vote.Jedward were in second place after the panels voted but won the public vote which unfortunately meant they won the competition overall.

Dudes, please don't. I mean, yeah, agree with you on the talentless twat stuff.... But you'll forgive everything about them when you've seen their advert with Omid Djalili(Or however the hell you spell it)

Youtube it...

Enjoy.
