I just figured something out.

This shit is hilarious when intoxicated. I swear, I'm laughing my ass off at the moment at that video linked a couple posts above me. I should make this a yearly ritual. And yes I had to re-type words several times to make this post coherent.

The UK still has a lot of tongue in cheek fun with it.

No nil point for us!

Whoah, people! First, this:

I have a soft spot for Eurovision Song Contest, call it a guilty pleasure. Sure, musically it's like [some steps. I kinda like 'Umbrella'] below Rihanna (I'll shamefully admit that every year there's a song or two that are at least endurable for the one or two times you have to hear it, but don't tell anyone I said that...), but that's not really why you watch it. There's just something fun about the spectacle, how gloriously flamboyant it is, and the sh*t people pull off in their attempts to win it. Besides, there's a sense of drama that arises from the scope of it and how seriously people take it, kind of the same reason I enjoy the football world cup even though I don't give a damn about football.
because, quoted for - almost - truth.

Actually, it is a greatly entertaining, brilliant spectacle. I mean, of course you take some irony with your entertainment here, and a good dose of it, all of it ;) but.. have drinks, be with friends/someone, marvel at the bizarre turds of performances you get to see and have a good laugh. There's stuff in it, even, which I find unironically and unfunnily rather interesting.

what do you mean by that? I'm from iceland and I don't give a fuck...... anyway here eurovision is just an excuse to hold a party and get drunk. nobody really cares.

The only thing I can think of when I hear the word 'Eurovision' is this. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHy7DGLTt8g]
That might have been the only moment in eurovision history that was worth anyone's time.

I don't care about it... until the voting begins that is, then I get nervous as hell. And we won!

For the record, a show with a viewership topping 100 million will probably be popular somewhere outside of Iceland as well :p

I thought as far as good singers and enjoyable songs I thought it was a good year, but I don't watch it for that I watch it for the crazy stuff and all we got this year was a dancing oven.

My German teacher used to put on a song every day for us. I never liked eurovision. Most of the songs were annoying, but it took up class time which was nice.

We also watched Wetten Dass, which was 100x more entertaining.

We (I'm hosting a LAN right now) watched it. Here is the 3 most memorable moments:

The song from Russia.
The one from Finland giving points.
Norway coming on last place.

I'm not sure why we watched it, but we ended up cheering every other country than ours, and we hoped we ended up on last place. We did ^^

I like the concept of eurovision, and it can be quite entertaining to watch. But unfortunetly the voting is so obviously warped (neighbours vote for neighbours etc), and some of the songs are off such a sucky quality that it hurts the ears.

All that aside, its damned fun to see ones country win. GO SWEDEN! \o/

Too political, too much of a waste of money, (just like the london olympics( and the uk generally does shit.

To be honest, its a better way of judging EU relations than any conference, meeting or summit that could be held that year.

Dude, have to say. Nobody else really cares....Well at least not here in Britain, but that's probably because we always come last.... or second last >.<

And I just have to say that your song was by far the best this year. It was actually a decent song!.... which is kinda cheating in Eurovision, but still! Yours and Germans were about the only proper, decent songs...

The guy that sung in you entry was just great... His voice is epic, and his hair was awesome.

The chick giving points from Moldova was the best....(insert crude joke about raising points here)

Oh, and the French dude... because....well.... because.

Here in Malta we not only take it far too seriously but every year we're all "Malta's got the best song in the history of everything, we're sure to win this year" and then when we lose we're all "wtf why did we lose".

The songs are usually shit, but it's tradition! It's a social gathering, no fucking way I'd watch it on my own. And half of the Eurovision experience is this:

Make fun of ALL the dresses!

For me, the Eurovision thing pretty much boil down to "We watch it every year, and it's fun to have a laugh together."

It's too long, all the votes typically go from one country to another that it historically likes and the acts are terrible!

However, I did briefly catch Russian grandmothers singing, so I think instead they should just play them for 5 hours.

Honestly I thought the whole thing was in pretty poor taste since the host country IS AN EFFIN DICTATORSHIP. Ok fine, it's no North Korea but still... One of the 3 presentators was the president's daughter and the halftime show was his son in law...

So, uh, Sweden?
Out of the fair (and admittedly surprising) amount of genuinely decent acts, they went with the generic, sounds-exactly-like-that-one-track-you've-heard-before-but-can't-put-your-finger-on dance track.

Wait... hang on a second...
Do you hear that? At 0:07, and again at 0:25... that horn sounds strangely... Reaper-ish.
OH GOD. THE JUDGES HAVE BEEN INDOCTRINATED. THIS EXPLAINS EVERYTHING.
