Euthanasia (literally "good death" in Ancient Greek) refers to the practice of ending a life in a painless manner.

-
Euthanasia may be conducted with consent (voluntary euthanasia) or without consent Involuntary euthanasia is conducted where an individual makes a decision for another person incapable of doing so. The decision can be made based on what the incapacitated individual would have wanted, or it could be made on substituted judgment of what the decision maker would want were he or she in the incapacitated person's place, or finally, the decision could be made by assessing objectively whether euthanasia is the most beneficial course of treatment.

There are terminally ill patients who wish to die peacefully. Many patients are seriously ill with no hope of life, don't you think they should use the option of "Death" for themselves ?

Fine let them choose, but your last sentance imposes on the readers will,
Using Wikipedia for a politically volitile subject seems a little off...

No, the reason I said euthanasia on that thread was because of this thread.

He does this. Brings up a controversial topic with somewhat poor grammar, and then just leaves it to run wild.

As for the subject, I think if there is no possible chance to survive and they will die a painful death, the patient should have the right to euthanasia.

I see, so he is known for this. And I agree with you about the topic.

Mercy killing What was all that about?

I don't see the issue since patients are well within their rights to refuse treatment and humans aren't excatly immortal why not allow them the option to end it quickly rather than suffer

Yeah, I think it it should be allowed. I don't see a problem with it, if consent is given.

There were two guys in Australia that have been convicted for mass manslaughter; and been dubbed Dr. Death.

I disagree with their conviction, because they have evidence that the patients (all elderly) wanted to die peacefully, rather than painfully.

The problem is it's becoming a kind of movement. People are actually being encouraged to off themselves by various groups (most notably Dignitas). Before I get swamped by people saying that it is wrong for me to ask others to live in horrific pain or whatever I suggest you read this [http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/03/world/europe/03germany.html?_r=1].

If someone wants to kill themself that is there business. If they still have the use of their arms and legs it should be possible for them to sort it out. If not the case should be reviewed by a panel of medical experts and judges.

Anyone found to be "assisting" in the way described in the article above should be tried for murder.

The option should always exist for the patient whom is terminal. If there is no cure in the forseeable future, and all they have left is a few days or weeks of agonizing pain, give them the option to end it before then. Or, if that's too distasteful, a drug induced coma. But they should be made aware of the options, and given at least day or however longer they wishso to rethink their choice unless certain conditions (As in dying within the hour anyways) do not permit that.

No matter how bleak, they should never be pressured into euthanasia. It should be an option, though, and outside of your 'angels of mercy' serial killers I don't imagine most doctors are going to.

I'm in favour of mandatory euthanasia for people who shit me.

Under the glorious rule of Pax Aardvarkius, the Internet will be reduced to an ocean of silence, broken by the occasional cough or muffled sob.
