I find it interesting that the Evan Emory case has generated such interest and commentary on the internet. And I'm not debating that it's an interesting case. However, if the same outrage was pointed towards the tens of thousands of people who die every day from malnourishment, basic diseases and need for basic hygiene, I wonder what would happen?
I propose an experiment. Every time you like a "Free Evan Emory" or "Imprison Evan Emory" group on FB, or comment on a thread weighing in an opinion, or whatever the crazy kids are doing these days, take five minutes and donate one dollar (or whatever the equivalent is in your respective country) to a charity that does work in that area. Or education, if that's more your bent. While I'm not silly enough to think that will end all the starvation etc in the world overnight, I can't see it hurting. And it'd be interesting to see what happens.
EDIT: Apparently I phrased something badly above. My intention is not to say "X is worse", or "People Y are wrong". My intention is to bring some good out of this issue, nothing more.
