I find it interesting that the Evan Emory case has generated such interest and commentary on the internet. And I'm not debating that it's an interesting case. However, if the same outrage was pointed towards the tens of thousands of people who die every day from malnourishment, basic diseases and need for basic hygiene, I wonder what would happen?

I propose an experiment. Every time you like a "Free Evan Emory" or "Imprison Evan Emory" group on FB, or comment on a thread weighing in an opinion, or whatever the crazy kids are doing these days, take five minutes and donate one dollar (or whatever the equivalent is in your respective country) to a charity that does work in that area. Or education, if that's more your bent. While I'm not silly enough to think that will end all the starvation etc in the world overnight, I can't see it hurting. And it'd be interesting to see what happens.

EDIT: Apparently I phrased something badly above. My intention is not to say "X is worse", or "People Y are wrong". My intention is to bring some good out of this issue, nothing more.

So this is just you taking "shit day top trumps" and applying it on a global scale. Very well, I shall employ a man to follow you around. Next time you complain about your life he will simply say, "People get raped."

In other words, I don't get why whenever someone complains about something bad that happens, someone else just has to beat their story.

Sorry, I must have been unclear. My apologies. My point was that rather then just complaining about a silly judicial incident, maybe the energies would be better directed to something productive?

And yes, I also lose sight of bigger picture stuff a lot, despite my attempts to maintain perspective. But that isn't really what's going on here. This is just my little attempt to try to make some tiny good come out of a controversial issue.

Sorry if I sound kind of ignorant but who's Evan Emory?
He's some internet musician/comedian who did some silly things with a video, made it look like he was singing a dirty song to some kids. I'm not really up on the details.

It's just the same whine the internetwebz always gets. People of category A hates category B, and they duke it out at some forum. Then it spreads.

Oh that guy! I didn't know his name. His situation does seem pretty unfair, especially when you think of all the more famous people who have done similar (if not worse) things *Cough* Chris Morris *Cough*.
