Man, that was an epic tale even in that small news byte format. Someone should novelize this... for my entertainment. Perhaps it could be published... by BoB. o_0

I love the micromanagement and accounting in EVE, but the political intrigue like this is what really keeps me subscribed.

You read stuff like this and it's like "OMG EVE sounds like such a cool game."

Then you get your free trail, and its like, okay, and then you subscribe for a month, and it's like: okay when do we get to the good parts they keep posting about.

I guess you could say this is end-game content, but with EVE it feels like such a long, long time before you even see such things on the horizon.

I hear you on that. It takes a lot of your time to reach the really high-end "endgame", and it helps to know the right people. Although, you can have a fair bit of fun doing doing other things in the game as well, such as joining a merc corp. Then you'll likely have to do some PvE-grinding for cash, however, and that sucks. :(

OT: Rofl! Deserved! So utterly deserved!

Its stories like this that make me want to play Eve, but I've just never been able to get into it (despite many attempts). Any game where you can be a white collar criminal is a-ok in my book.

I think the goons themselves said it best: "We won the region by pushing a button, we lost it by forgetting to push a different one"
Sucks to be goons! =P

Anyways, yeah, you really have to join a corp for EVE to be worth it, but once you find a good corp it's so worth it as a game (still my favorite game). As for corps that will take you, if you read up on it and train the right skills, you can easily be ready in a month or two (provided you survive the learning curve).

Frigate piracy is where it's at if you're just starting out.

Do missions for a week or so while training the right skills, get a few well fitted frigates, learn to hunt in lowsec and have yourself some yarr.

Read one or two blogs of dedicated pirates from the beginning to catch a glimpse of how much fun it can be.

Somehow for me the drama is undercut by the incongruity of the name "GoonSwarm" and the knowledge that "Karttoon" is probably a basement dwelling teenager with way too much time on his hands, in which case the real irony in this article is the choice of the phrase "riding into the sunset".
Seeing as the 1.5 week "vacation" that Karttoon took (when GoonSwarm lost all their occupied space), was his honeymoon, i seriously doubt that's the case.

Also, for those of you who want some more insight in the matter, The Mittani (Goon spymaster) wrote an article [http://www.tentonhammer.com/node/80680] about the entire mess over at TenTonHammer.

And that's how the cookie crumbes in the cold, empty vastness of EVE Online [http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3210674&userid=0&perpage=40&pagenumber=241#post372010291].
Did you mean crumbles?

O.T: If he was bothered by it's state, why would he destroy the allaince, when he could just leave and never go back to it.

God is there any MMO type game that the goon squad hasn't touched? I always wondered why anyone would want to join them anyways as they usually use mass tactics instead of skill. I remember seeing em in Conan and they would almost always have like 6 people running around together. But when you caught a smaller group or a loner it was game over cause they were just so bad.

Well back in my no life days when I was addicted to WoW I was in a guild called Holy Legion, the largest Alliance guild in the server and we had A rival guild of the horde called the Horde legion. We met for battle on a bridge and we Won. Turns out that this was pretty big and When we got back to the human main city every body was asking what it was like. I was thrilled to see I was taking part in history. The horde legion then actually disbanned and we dominated the horde after that for a good year. The people who protected the places left. gone. vamoosed. So in the end it went from a horde server to a Alliance dominated one. Man did I lul at this.
That's so lame and boring I think it gave me cancer.

OT: Hmm, what with the near inescapable advertising for this game, every so often I'm tempted to try it, but since I adamantly refuse to pay monthly fees for games there seems little point.

Interesting story, but I've heard similar tales of Eve Online, and honestly I don't play it for that reason. When I briefly tried it there was so much paranoia it was ridiculous. Sometimes I get to missing games like Elite and Tradewars and think about paying a few bucks to try it again, but then articles like this remind me why I never do.

Naturally reason must come into play, and one ought not extrapolate further than practicality would allow.

I merely meant that as "Don't expect much of people. Who knows? You might be pleasantly surprised. Maybe. Cross your fingers."

This is what I'm thinking. I'd love to play this game if it weren't for the INSANE subscription payment.

Well 'how' bob was defeated was inaccurate in this article.
Goons were loosing in the battles until the disbanding by a GOON aquired traitor.

It was interesting learning this factor.
Once the alliance was weakened by this then GOONS could break through.

This support of traitorous actions is only fitting as to the end of GOONS. Whether Kartton was actually away when 'he forgot to pay sov bill' or was actually there planning to 'not pay the sov bill' is a mute point. It was lost.

The moron or thief got away, depending on point of view.
Goons were really never known for good fighters, maybe blob ya with T1 frigs and cruisers.. So when they finally decided to get caps, they did not know how to fight.

It was a alliance of large number of paranoid noobs who could or would not fight. Hell, they abandoned each or their allies and buddies. Often claiming their allies as traitors, when not, if they found a way to make more money by doing so.

Those who were in Goons are going to be VERY scrutinized or refused entrance to the other big boys. Maybe they should go back to WOW...

Actually I love the politics in the game along with the combat.

Oh yeah! Bob is most definitely back.
IT is bigger then ever, IT is taking over, and everyone loves IT.
Learn to fear IT.

Have a nice day.

This is some good readin // Almost makes me want to play Eve to see what all this is about (almost but not enough) It is fun how in-depth this game is when is comes to business and money compared to other MMO's out there
