that it happened? Or were you left disappointed?

About 2 months ago I went on some lottery binge where I played the Mega Millions lotto everytime it was up, I even had numbers that I had dreamt up. It was pretty pathetic in retrospect, but I just believed in it so strongly that I figured it was going to happen eventually.

Yeah, I know, pathetic, but have you guys/gals ever done something similar?

I suppose so. Here's where my smarty-mouth atheist friend would say 'ever been to church'?
But I'm not going to say that.

Hehe I could see this turning into a religion thread, but it isn't really what I intended for it. So thanks for not actually saying it...even though you did indirectly.

You're welcome. And just so everyone here knows, I'm a Mormon.
That's like the eighth time I've said it.

I was what, 11? Things were miserable for us then, and I thought this would come and make us happy agian.

Wow, thinking back, things that happened in my childhood were pretty miserable.
I love my momma...

Aww... That is more or less my line of thinking when it came to the lotto. It could do so much for my entire family and friends and charities. I don't know what made me believe so strongly in it, but it dwindled over time. I guess we all need something to hope for, and that house was something that gave you hope. I hope you're better off now though Erana =D

I tend not to wish for things.
And when I do, it is a logical thing, so I know that it will happen eventually...God am I boring. *goes of to Base Jump to make up for boringness*

I learned a valuable lesson from that- don't rely on false hope. Nowadays I put that energy into self-esteem. And guess what? I also learned from that time in my life to not hold grudges. Of course, my life before college seems so distant... Eighth grade, I can remember.
Hrm. That is odd... *launches into a bout of introspection*

Well, I would make a silly joke, but pretty much everything I've dreamed of has just fallen apart in my hands. Nowadays I only depend on myself when it comes to doing most things. Otherwise I just give up.

Everything I really believe in is. That's real believing.
Yes it certainly is. Now as for me religious discussions aside, I have found that when I believe something like that I am generally disappointed. I want something to happen so badand then get absolutely crushed when it doesn't.

Not me, I'm not a believer. I sit back and think about things. It's practical, but maybe not so fun.

Actually, there is one thing: pool. As in billiards. Most days I'm average at pool, some days I'm useless, but occasionally I'll get in the zone and really feel like I can do anything on the pool table - and on those days, I am unstoppable. I once picked up a hot girl I'd never met purely on the basis of how goddamn omnipotent I was at pool that day.

I once strongly believed that I would never ever see a reason to join a religious organization but then I saw this picture:

(fixed the image that did not work before)
Religion about shoe throwing and juice hating? I understand that their holy book only talks about women getting stoned but surely these guys must have had some of that white stuff too.

I wished and hoped to lose weight for about 3 years.

And then I got incredibly ill, lost a stone, then had the impetus to start jogging regularly.

Does that count?

Oblivion, I was an insane Morrowind fan, I talked about it nearly every day when it came out I played it for a while but felt really disappointed.

I ended up finishing EVERY quest with one character in 40-50 hours and got really annoyed when people said "you can never finish Oblivion", true I guess but I got as close as anyone has.

It was like (i love inane similes) Morrowind was this plain/pretty girl who was really smart and always had different things to do, who you never could do everything with/to (faction quests required certain skill levels) and you and her had this unique thing going.
Oblivion was her really hot younger sister, who could quote a little of what her sister had said and really easy, everyone was having her.

The strongest motivator for me was about 2 months before finals I was absolutely certain I would fail my degree (I had good reasons) -- however instead of giving up I spent every waking hour till then studying. Only because I thought I had to put on a good show and go down fighting or I would forever blame myself for not trying, not because I thought it would help much. I was wrong, it wasn't too late and I actually managed to turn it around.

So I would say, my instincts and beliefs throughout my life have almost always been wrong -- I have changed my perspective on life about 3 times now, its been a very strange life.

The thing is, I've worked out that whenever I feel strongly about something, the opposite happens. When I heard Red Alert 3 was announced, up until the release, I was absolutely positive that it was going to be a load of crap. I almost cried at how good it was when it came out. EA actually did something RIGHT! They recently messed up everything with a patch though, so I guess this is currently redundant.

I believed my older siblings were really smart and good at things. Man that was a huge let down.
