I constantly feel like I'm wasting my time doing the stuff I do, like using my computer and gaming, but I don't know what else to do with my time. I could read the books I've tried to finish, but whenever I try, I end up forgetting them once I get time to read more.

Yeah, I felt like that in high school, and it was because I was wasting my life. Make some friends and go outside. Playing games to relax every once in a while is great, but it's not a substitute for a social life.

You only wasting time if you don't enjoy whatever it is your doing.

Everytime the idea of wasting time comes to my mind, I just stand there and think about it for a few minutes.

Yeah, every single time I try to do some PvP in World of Warcraft.
"Why am I doing this?"

Personally, I think that if you enjoy it, it's not a waste of time.

Bertrand Russell.
These are my feelings. But I also feel that my gaming time is wasted only in competitive games without some kind of worthwhile exp system, where I'm not working up to any goal. Examples include: Old Gears 2 ranking system, Halo 3's pointless exp system.

Let's face it, Call of Duty without the exp system just wouldn't be nearly as good.

Damn you. I was about to use the exact same quote.

Oh well, I can't find an equally awesome quote, so I'll just say: If you really enjoy using your computer and playing games, then I don't see how that could be wasting time because otherwise you would not actually make an effort to do these things.

Try your hand at designing a game? Maybe run a pen and paper game with friends? That way you get to play a game, socialize, and build your storytelling/game design skills. Fun, geeky, and productive!

Maybe, but then I remember that I'm a nihilist.
Eh, if you're going to be here anyway, you might as well spend your time doing something awesome. Even if it's ultimately a waste, it could always be an impressive one.

Yes, sometimes I feel like I'm wasting my time. Oddly, I'm getting that feeling right now as I'm typing 0.o
I hear you. Forums are one of my biggest time-sinks. I quit an advice forum because it absorbed a lot of my free time.

...which averages out to about 5 posts a day over the time I've been a member here, which I hardly think is unreasonable or incompatible with a healthy social life.

There's plenty of wisdom in Russel's quote that people who spend ten and twenty hours a week love trotting out, but the fact of the matter is that you're going to be a happier person if you spend that time socializing with your peers than you are if you're sitting in a dank basement trying to get every achievement in halo 3.

All the time. I always have this nagging voice in my head going "You've spent X amount of time doing this, what do you have to show for it?" That's pretty much the only thing that gets my butt off of the computer (well, unless I'm working.) Even if I enjoy doing nothing productive, I feel so very useless if I accomplish nothing concrete in a day.

Almost nobody hates people. They just refuse to put in the effort to get along with people, and as long as they continue on that path, they'll never be happy, either.

I don't care how much of an internet badass you are. You'll never feel good about yourself if you sit on the couch for your entire life. That only comes from fulfilling interpersonal relationships.

I enjoy relaxing and not really doing anything, maybe play a little guitar, listen to music, game or go on the internet. But I don't feel as if it's wasted.
