Team fortress 2. I got the orange box just for half life since i heard it was amazing. It came with tf2 so I though why not. I still play it everyday, got over 230 hours on it.

Baldurs Gate. My brother gave me some old CDs of his and i was tied to the PC for weeks.
a newer example "hey check out this Minecraft thingy here" "ok" result: a whole night of digging into the depths of the world, hiding from monsters, searching the precious ores i needed to defend myself and to build a fortress full of traps.

Age of Mythology. I couldn't afford a lot of games as a kid, so I just played that one until I practically had the whole thing memorized and could emulate it in my brain.

WoW....yeah, I know. I don't play anymore though.

More recently, Yume Nikki. Can't stop thinking about it.

My mum used to own a video rental shop, and she had a small shelf with about 12 PS2 games on it, all of them were crappy games I'd never heard of, at the end of each day before closing I would be allowed to choose one movie/game to take home and bring back the next day, and I was in that situation where nothing looks good to you but you don't want to leave empty handed, so I just ran over to the games shelf and picked up Dynasty Warriors 2, I played the shit out of it all night and have bought every single Dynasty Warriors game since.

Oblivion. Picked it up on a whim when I got my 360...here I am, 4-5 years later, with 4,000 hours on the fucking thing. 4,000 hours on the bloody 360 version.

Record of Agarest War. I was playing that nonstop for about two weeks, until I got stuck in chapter 3. The random encounters began to be harder than any of the boss fights >.<

Read a couple recommendations of Minecraft, saw a free weekend, and-

...yeah.
Why do I get the feeling that your avatar is trying to kill mine?

OT: Mass Effect, i bought it on a whim and ended up doing three full playthroughs directly after each other.
