Everyone listens to music?

So, I was watching an old extra credits episode [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/extra-credits/2005-Gamer], where they said that 100% of the people watching enjoyed some sort of music. This is something a lot of people assume, but isn't completely true: I don't listen to music, don't own any music and have never really felt like I enjoyed music (apart from the occasional drunken dance). Everyone I know thinks this is werid, but I've met plenty of people who aren't interested in other types of art and entertainment. For some reason, music is different.

So Escapists, do you all listen to music? And why do you think music is the one type of entertainment 'everyone' is supposed to appreciate?

i don't listen to straight music either. i only listen to it when it's part of a game/anime/movie/show/etc. people either think i'm lieing or some kind of alien when they find out.

EDIT: i'm not saying i don't 'enjoy' alot of the music i do hear, i'm just saying i don't go out of my way to listen to it for the sake of listening to it.

I listen to music a lot. Having to walk 5 minutes in the city without headphones on is a chore.

I have to say, what you say does sound pretty weird. Everyone I know enjoys music to some extent (as in, they might not listen to it all the time, but they can get into a song). Maybe you're just at the far end of the bell curve in that respect.

Incidentally, wait until someone says "everyone enjoys music" on TV and sue them.

Just listen to this song and tell me you don't like music

On a more serious note, I think there's some kind of weird biological instinct that makes humans appreciate music. Even isolated cultures have created their own little shindigs.

I cannot fathom life without music. It would be asolutely soul-crushing, in my opinion. If you can live like that, though, more power to ya, i guess.

I didn't think I listened to music either, I hated all pop songs or anything with vocals.

Then I realised I liked video game music about a year ago. Previous 18 years of my life I thought I was like you.

You're going to hate this, but go and listen to many different styles, from classical to dubstep to film scores to death metal, and unless you are medically tone deaf (it's possible) there is probably something out there for you. Also it is possible to train yourself to like something by listening to it a lot in passing, like for me certain songs in video games you end up listening to for 10 hours plus whether you like it or not, and you end up appreciating it.

I listen to music pretty much constantly. Sometimes it's just to drown out all the other noise around me. I'd say it's pretty rare to not have any appreciation for music at all.

I like music perfectly fine, but not enough that I ever really go out of my way to listen to it. I don't own an MP3 player, and I don't have any music stored on my computer. The few times I have tried setting up windows media player and listening to songs I always end up stopping it again when I want to watch a video or play a game, and then I never turn it back on.

I know, right? I generally try and avoid mentioning it just to skip the 'thats impossible!' conversation.

Well I suppose it must be worth the effort, but I've never got why anyone would go back and listen to a song more than once. Still, could be worth a try (should probably wait till after my exams are finished though :p)

Music is my motherfreakin' life fuel.
Without it, I would just wither and die.

Or you know, be very, VERY bored.

If it sounds good I'll listen to it. I don't turn down music because it's X genre.

I pretty much listen to it constantly. I have an iPod that I can't go very long without sticking in my lugs. School, walking, in the car, It's constantly there. Nice way to disconnect with the world occasionally. I listen to a large variety despite most stuff you hear on the radio, although I don't mind Adele or P!nk but I'm into the heavier side of things: Maiden, Job For A Cowboy, Pantera, Otep etc. Occasionally I'll hit the softer stuff like Secondhand Serenade or He Is We though.

Anyway. Yes, I can't imagine life without music. I'm soundtracking my life. When I listen to a song, I get reminded of a person or a place or an event, and I love it.

I used to think I didn't like music until I found the right songs. My friends still say 'Oh yeah he doesn't like music I forgot!' They just don't seem to see the fact that I don't have to listen to music everywhere I go.

Music, yeah music, one of those things that has kept me alive thus far. There is something playing almost constantly, whether it's just a background for reading, writing or playing games or less often when I really listen to the music to enjoy it.

Because listening to music is not like watching television or playing games. You don't have to devote your entire concentration to the song so a huge amount of people listen to music on top of doing other things.

I knew one person who wasn't that really into music either. I thought it extremely weird.
Music is the thing I enjoy most. More than games. More than food.

Hell, if I had to pick between music and porn I'd pick music.
