So I woke up this morning and went and picked up Fable III. I popped it in with both fear and anticipation, hoping that this isn't a repeat of Fable II. I am now about 5 hours into the game and I have to say that this is definitely not the terror that Fable II was. It looks similar and many things have stayed somewhat the same but it's all been tweaked and messed with to the point where everything looks great, runs smooth, and feels awesome.

The storyline for one is a big improvement. The first 30 minutes or so might have you sitting at one decision for a few minutes like I was wondering what would be the best choice to make. The characters are more rounded and even your character has been given a voice.

The combat hasn't changed much but it has been polished. The Magic system is worked out so you get offensive spells in the form of Power Gloves that you equip like a weapon and then any other spell can be found in potion form which you can then use in combat via the D-Pad (though I have found that it can be slightly buggy at times). One thing that annoys me is that you can't turn Auto-Aim off, so when your using your ranged weapon you can't aim for a head shot.

The Menu system has been thrown away like most you know I'm sure. It's now "The Sanctuary" and you go into rooms and everything is laid out before you. At first I was dreading this bit expecting loading times to be through the roof everytime I wanted to change my outfit, but everything is preloaded so going to the Sanctuary takes about 2 seconds for everything to load.

The one thing I absolutely hate is the interactions with the townsfolk, you can't choose which expression you want to use. You have to select from 3 random ones that are brought up when you go up to someone.

So far it is a much better game. I hope it stays that way.

What does everyone else think of Fable III so far?

I fucking love it.

I'm a bit of a fanboy but at least that gives me the right to say

"AAW YEAH BABY TOLD YOU IT'D BE SWEET, SUCK IT!!"

To all the haters who were like

"You know what Molyneux is like this is gonna suck."

(Yeah I know I'm exaggerating but I'm just happy)

Anyway yeah I love the game it's fun and other people have the right to be cautious because they thought fable 1 & 2 were let downs compared to how Molyneux made them sound. I personally liked them all but that's just me. I think this one is the best but again that's just me.

If you want specifics as to why I like it just look at OP.

PM pretty much kept his mouth shut this time around, so as long as they didn't inject pure bile onto a disc I think most people would be happy with it. I played a bit of it at a friend's house and really enjoy the improved combat system and the hero room thing instead of the inventory (also a nice throwback to Black and White's temple) and the pacing of it is pretty nice. One thing I despise though is how you interact with people. The job system was silly, but doing chores to make friends with people is ridiculous. Overall it's a big step forward, but I wish they hadn't put in little things that were annoying.

My impressions of Fable 3? Okay...

"Hi, I'm a game that isn't in your repertoire!"

And there you have it. Never played, no opinion.

It has taken some getting used to. Though, I'm enjoying it now.

I'm okay with going to a separate location to change equipment, but I'm not a fan of having no access to my inventory. That is the only negative I can think to for the moment.

The choice Logan gives you in the beginning is one of the hardest I have made since Fallout 3.
So I take it that this game is good? I dunno I've only been playing for an hour an a half, I just got my sword.

I'm a fan of the older two and still can't say Fable 3 is better than tolerable. The Sanctuary is fine in some ways but I'm the kind of person who will pause a game to use the bathroom, get a snack or (like I'm doing right now) check in on a favorite website. Coming back to the game and seeing anything other than a menu is very, very strange to me.

I hate that you can't turn off auto-aim since I'm dumping most of my points into becoming Vash the Stampede. At the moment I'm a level 3 level 2 with ranged weapons so I'm going to hold back on not being able to target heads, groins and, limbs. It's frustrating when I can see a large red barrel but can't get the auto-aim to recognize it as well!

During the chicken races for example. I got through a few of those, 'paused' the game to use the bathroom and when I came back to place more bets, they glitched causing me to be unable to bet on any further races until I leave town and return. I was then able to bet on one race again before a similar glitch.

Mentioned above was the interaction-interface. You can't pick what expressions you want to use and nobody likes it when you burp anymore...and you can't impress a hoard of adoring citizens anymore...and I haven't figured out how to make people follow me without holding their hand. The hand-holding thing is cute at first but it lost it's charm completely when the manual told me that to have sex, I had to lead them to a bed by the hand. My favorite thing to do in Fable 2 was to convince an entire town to squeeze into a single-sized bed for the wildest, least-protected sex party of the week. How am I supposed to throw wild sex parties now!? There is an achievement for a 4-person orgy but I don't see how you're going to do that outside of multiplayer.

As for gripes I had with Fable 2 that haven't been fixed yet:

F2G1 - You can't kill children. In Fable 3...you still can't
F2G2 - You can't kill chickens. In Fable 3...you still can't
F2G3 - The women of Albion are only able to produce one child (except the Player Character who can have 1 child per marriage) In Fable 3...same rules (though to be honest, I only tried this with one woman. After having sex about 20 times or so, she's only given me one child)

I'm also running into a lot of clipping issues. Way more than with my copy of New Vegas (a better behaved game which I'm likely going to pop back on in a moment) Frankly, I'm surprised there aren't any anti-Fable 3 threads yet! It's been out for 24 hours where I am. Last week I remember seeing threads and articles about how buggy New Vegas is. Maybe this is just some sort of cosmic revenge though: I get a golden New Vegas, talk about it and am gifted a broken Albion.

EDIT!

My wife has just given my son a baby brother! Being a level 5 Bard and, lawful-good, I will do the only thing that makes sense: Make my wife spit out enough babies to give Albion it's very own Brady Bunch (in the musical sense) They'll wish they hadn't revolted!

I've been LOVING it so far and I'm on my second run because I royally screwed up at the end. Right now I am confused because I want to marry Elliot but I have no idea where to find him. It's a great game and I think it's a wonderful improvement over Fable II.

Where do you find Elliot/Elise after "The Kidnap" quest? He told me to meet me at the Orphanage and I can't find him. Do I have to wait until awhile after? Is he somewhere else?

Also, tip for everyone. I learned this the hard way:

Reaver may be a douche, but if you can get money and not break a promise DO IT. I lost over 5,000,000 people because I tried to be a good person and I don't have an Albion to rule anymore.

Am liking it so far, love the new magic system, just a couple of things.
1. The text is way too small. It is impossible to read.
2. The block skill is kinda slow. You have to be blocking before they attack, which irritates me.
3. I like the sanctuary and stuff, but I don't like the fact you can't really pause when pressing start. It gets me every time.

It's quite a bit of fun, I turned my girl into a biker chick with a short sword and combat rifle. So far, I've enjoyed it immensely.

Especially the finisher move where my girl does a backflip, lands on someone's shoulders, then snaps their neck with her thighs.

First impressions:

1. Looks and feels just like Fable 2. Which is fine with me. So similar, in fact, that I wound up being reminded of all the stuff I'd forgotten about Fable 2.

2. Love the menu/inventory/portal thing. As I spent so much time in Fable 2 playing dress-up, this'll make it a lot of fun to create FABULOUS OUTFITS.

3. Character design is a little better, though I'm getting a weird blur effect in cutscenes.

4. Don't think I like the new interaction function.

5. Story seems like it'll be a lot better.

6. Don't like how they removed the "childhood" section. I'd always liked that about Fable games.

Impressive, most impressive.

I watched my girlfriend play it for around 2 hours last night, and I think I might actually play it this time around.

My first impression is that I have to wait a few months to play it for PC, because Xbox sucks isn't a console I own.

Uh.. I'll tell you when it gets to PC, howzabout? *rarghmicrosoftgrah*

Just from looks, though, it looks like a spot of good fun. Don't know how much more than that it is, but maybe that's enough.

Haven't played it myself, but I helped create the video review and watched people playing the game. Having said that my initial thoughts are that it looks very nice, some of the quests seem a bit tedious, and I've witnessed some bugs and buggy behavior. Over all it looks like the people playing it were having fun aside from the buggy behavior.

And boy is that commercial cool or what?!

:)
