I just watched Evil Dead for my first time and while I do think it was good I can't get over how fucked up it is. Especially that scene where the lady gets raped by the tree. I was also suprised by how scary it actualy was. I expected it to be good but in a funny way. Also there was a shitload of gore. But my main question is was it supposed to be funny too? Because there were a couple parts where I legitimately laughed out loud. So any comments u have aout the movie that would help me understand the movie or just about what u thought of it would be appreciated.

The first one was supposed to be straight up horror, but the inexperience of the actors and crew members shown through and made it funny in parts. So, they decided to throw in some humor into the later ones.

Yes, it was supposed to be a bit humourous. This series is the king of not taking itself seriously. The sequels get progressively funnier and less scary, but stay just as good if not get better. I'm one of few who say the third is the best of the series, but the second one tends to be the most popular.

Also, the one-liners. So many classic one-liners! Hell, Duke stole "Hail to the King" from Ash!

Yeah it is. Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi, have a huge love for slapstick, I would recommend the two sequels, as there are more obvious comedy moments, and the third (Army of Darkness) is just all out fun and funny where they really didn't take themselves seriously, great movies, with a truly great actor.

The first one is supposed to be pretty serious, it just had a low budget. Try Army of Darkness (The third and final [for now] installment). It's Campbell and Raimi embracing camp and b horror humor.

But wtf was up with the tree rape scene?!
It was random, funny, and formerly scary but now very dated, adding to the humour.

Yes. It is a horror/comedy, with the greater emphasis being on horror. See also: Sean of the Dead, which is a comedy/horror, the greater emphasis being on comedy.

I actually watched Evil Dead 1 and 2 last night myself and enjoyed every moment. If you liked The Evil Dead you'll like Dead by Dawn. Bruce Campbell wins my own personal award for best actor in a horror movie and his hand wins the award for best supporting actor (watch the movie and learn how that works out).

As a great song goes:

A chainsaw can remove a limb or act as a replacement.

Evil Dead's a straight (if low budget and slightly wobbly) horror feature. Evil Dead 2 is pretty much a remake of 1 with added humour, experience and more money.

3's just them being silly (in a good way), and is probably my favourite. I think. They're all good.

If you're a fan of the Evil Dead franchise, you should check out Bubba Ho-tep and My Name Is Bruce.

I say watch the second one. It has a little more comedy, but still has some freaky parts like the laughing scene.

Btw I must post this
