Ok people, this thread is basically just me giving a shameless plug for a flash game I've been enjoying.
[i/]A Trashy Love Story[/i]

The game is an arty platformer that tells the story of a relationship between a trash can and a garbage bag. Yes, the concept is wierd, but [b/]hear me out, OKAY?[/b] This is a great game, but it has been receiving low scores on Armor Games ( current score < 5/10 ). I would hate more than anything for a game of such vision and entertainment to fade into the dustbin of the internet.
Why is this game receiving such low scores? If I had to guess, it's probably because of the silly concept more than anything. Yes, the trash can with the smiley face doesn't exactly scream "super-serious-arty-groundbreaking-erection-provoking excellence." But I think that the silly concept and the lack of attention are the only things holding this game back.
The gameplay goes as such: you play as an anthropomorphic plastic bag that can fly for some reason. Each level takes place underground, and the goal is to reunite the bag-girl with the can-boy (who is apparently named "Goony") on each level. You must fly around waterfalls, through narrow caverns, and past rotating spikes. Let me tell you though: this is the most fun I have had flying in a game since the cape from Mario World. Flying in Video Games isn't used nearly enough, despite being man's ambition for all eternity and more fun than killing two million of God's creatures with a boring ol' machine gun.
Furthermore, the game is excellently written. There are dialogue screens that impart brief context, and often the developers will show you just what they can do by using level desing as a metaphor for relationship difficulties. Word of warning, though: this game is tough. The difficulty curve ramps up fast in the second half, and the game keeps finding new creative ways to kill you. However, the controls are simple and competent, and I had fun solving the puzzles this game threw at me. If games like [i/]Super Meat Boy[/i] or [i/]Dark Souls[/i] can be hailed as classics despite being legendarily fond of killing the player-character, I don't see why this game sould be shirked.
If you don't enjoy this game, fine. Leave a comment. But I think that the game is definately worth checking out. If you enjoy it, then make sure to log into an Armor Games account and give it a 10, or maybe like it on Facebook, or perhaps go to a gamer website and start a forum thread on it.
Oh, wait. Uh, don't do that last one. I'm doing it already.
PS: No, I was not involved in the development of this game, I do not know anyone who was on this game's development team, and I definately was not paid with Twix bars by the makers of this game to write this review.
PPS: No, I don't expect any of you to believe what I wrote in the PS. Mmm, Twix...
