Hello and welcome to Exodus, a Battlestar Galactica RP.
Exodus takes much from the world of Battlestar Galactica but is not primarily dependent on it, this is a survival/exploration RP of a different kind, it will be following an alternative story arc than that of Galactica and her crew and as such you do not need to have complete knowledge of the series to participate. As a matter of face I believe I have structured this RP so that it can be enjoyed by both fans of the series and new comers alike. To make sure everyone is on the same page though I will be providing a brief synopsis of the events that form the backbone of BSG which will be useful for those partaking in this RP.
Details:
This RP is revolved around another Battlestar, the Battlestar Phoenix. The events that transpire are those immediately following the Cylon attack on the homeworlds. The ship, under the command of Commander Dante Auriga, is believed to be the only surviving military vessel from the Colonial Fleets. Now hunted by the Cylons in their continued quest to eliminate humanity from existence, the crew of the Phoenix face an uncertain future. With no home to go to, with no help to turn to, constantly under threat of attack, the Phoenix is alone in space. Their only choice is to run, run and hide, and hopefully find a habitable planet to colonize away from the prowling Cylons. The only option is to survive.
Your mission as members of this RP is to facilitate this survival process. Your actions could see a new dawn for humanity or seal it?s own demise. The plot is intentionally kept vague but will be revealed as the story progresses.. All you will need to know is that this is a survival RP and your main objective is to survive aboard the Phonix.
You can either be a military personnel or a civilian on board the Phoenix, even both if you so choose it. In addition to this, a select few of you can play as Cylon agents on board the Battlestar. This role however is exclusive and needs my approval before the RP will commence. Secrecy and stealth skills are a must for the latter role. More on that here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/362.153660.3698046]
How to Enlist
There are two application sheets to choose from. You can either be a Colonial Officer (in which case you will begin aboard the Phonix) or a civilian that managed to escape the Cylon attack (you will begin on a space station..more details on that later). The reason for two sheets is not necessarily for player flexibility but to provide two different perspectives for the RP. For those applying to be a Colonial Officer I expect a certain degree of familiarity with Battlestar operations, i.e- you should know a bit about the role you?re playing/terminology/references. You don?t have to know everything from A-Z about the series but if you know the difference between a Raptor and a Viper then you should do fine as a Colonial Officer. That said, I do not discourage people with no knowledge about the series from applying (as I said, I will be submitting an information post later about the ?essentials? so that those who are not familiar with things can get a brief idea of what?s what) instead the reason for two sheets is that if you do not feel comfortable with a role that requires a bit of knowledge to play you can always chose to be a civilian. Also, you can have two characters running at the same time (1 colonial and 1 civilian) provided that you don?t get confused between both.
Keep in mind that this is a survival RP and while I have not incorporated a health system in this RP you should be warned that death is a likely possibility. What determines death is purely determined by action and your reactions. If you fail to react or react without much thought then you are likely to get seriously injured or even wind up on a cold slab in the morgue.
How things work: Combat
Combat is something that one should expect a lot in this RP. Combat can occur on solid ground or as ship to ship attacks. The Phoenix has two primary methods to defend herself from the latter, one is her own weapons. A Battlestar is usually bristling with an assortment of weaponry and the Phoenix is no different in that respect. Ship to ship combat, is usually a straightforward affair and is not RP?d but narrated instead, and the narration usually comes from the GM. However for this RP, much of the post action will come from the ships second form of defense; her Viper squadrons.
If you are planning on RP?ing as a Viper pilot then you are in charge of narrating and/or posting your combat actions. In general with Viper based combat, you are free to post the outcomes of minor combat situations (simulations, drones, sparring in PVP) as well as battles with Cylon Raiders. The Cylons have three primary assault ships; the Cylon Basestar (the equivalent of a Battlestar), Cylon Raider (equivalent of a Viper) and Cylon Heavy Raider (equivalent of Raptor). Out of these three, the Raider is commonly launched en mass (in the thousands) and as such I allow free reign over Viper-to-Raider Combat, i.e- No GM input is required when posting battle outcomes between these two crafts. However, the same comment cannot be said for attacking Heavy Raiders and Basestars. If you do chose to fight them and you post as such, then you shall await the GM update to find if your attempt was successful or not.
As was said before, combat is not limited to ship-to-ship assaults. The threat from the Cylons can come from anywhere, even from within and on the ground; therefore rules regarding combat are relatively lax...to an extent. Minor skirmishes and confrontations do not require GM supervision however if you find yourself in an overwhelmed position, staging a major assault or if you engage in a boss fight (you will be notified of major engagements), then you will be at the mercy of the dice roll. If the dice roll, which is added with your character score, does not add up to the minimum survivability points, then you die.
How things work: Not in Combat
These are the only two options in the RP. If you ain?t fighting, you?ll be running.
Day to day activity on board the Phonix is whatever you make it to be. Be it character interactions, character growth, responding to a daily crisis, random exploration or maintenance, much of it is based on your reactions and pacing. I must however point out to all players that there are more forces at work than just the Cylons, by that I mean that space travel itself has its own share of problems. These ?problems? can crop up at any time and therefore can be a hindrance to your survival. Work as a team or alone, it is up to you to decide, all that is important is that you be on your toes.
***
The current outlook is bleak for humanity. Only a handful of humans exist, seeking refuge aboard the Battlestar Phoenix, the last remnant of the proud Colonial fleets. Humans are now an extinct race, contemplating their own demise either at the hands of a ruthless enemy or the cold vacuum of space. Supplies are low, moral is down. There is no relief on the way, no support from others. You are alone, one ship against an armada.
Did some of the things said above confuse you?. Have no idea what I am talking about?. Well then below is the section for you. If you are familiar with BSG then you can skip this section and move along, if not then you might as well pull up a chair and go over the basics. The things listed below are primarily for understanding the events and terms that will/might be flung around in this RP as well as to give a basic idea of the premise of the whole thing for those who have never seen BSG.
So here is the:
[HEADING=1]BSG Information Q&A Page[/HEADING]
Q: What is the premise of Battlestar Galactica?
A: The story arc of Battlestar Galactica is set in a distant part of the galaxy, where a civilization of humans live on a series of planets known as the Twelve Colonies. In the past, the Colonies had been at war with a cybernetic race known as the Cylons; machines originally built by man but later rebelled against their masters. This war between man and machine raged for years eventually ending with the signing of an armistice. The first Cylon war was over and the machines disappeared from Colonial territories never to be seen again or so the humans thought.
40 years later the Cylons suddenly reappeared and with the unwitting help of a brilliant human scientist, the Cylons launch a sudden ambush on the Colonies, laying waste to the planets and devastating their populations via nuclear orbital bombardment. The handful of human survivors flee into space aboard any spacecraft they can reach and try to find a distant home called Earth
Q: What are the twelve colonies?.
A: These are 12 planets that form the principal human civilization in the BSG series. They are (including most distinguishing characteristics):
Aquaria [vast ocean planet] Aerelon [agricultural planet] Canceron [large coastal metropolis] Caprica [Capital / industrial and commercial metropolis/wealthy] Gemenon [Deeply religious/cultural/poor] Leonis [Vast plains/wine production] Libran [judicial centre of the Colonies] Picon [Colonial Fleet Headquarters] Sagittaron [poverty/terrorist activity against government] Scorpia [Jungle planet/home to Scorpio Shipyard] Tauron [agricultural colony/lack of flowers/civil war/history or quarreling with the government] Virgon [wealthy/lush forests/beer production]
Q: How did the twelve colonies fall?.
A: The Fall of the Twelve Colonies (Cylon holocaust or Second Cylon War) is a devastating, genocidal attack that re-ignites the conflict between the humans of the Twelve Colonies and their creations, the robotic Cylons.
The attack began when the Cylons compromised Colonial defenses by infiltrating their military and civilian society with models that look human. They managed to get access to the Colonial Defense Mainframe and created rouge programs or backdoor programs in the newly created Command Navigation Program (CNP). Once the software was sufficiently distributed throughout the Colonial Fleet, the Cylons return from their forty-year exile and launch a devastating attack on the Colonies. The backdoors in the CNP enable the Cylons to use various electronic attacks that completely by-pass Colonial electronic defenses, and inflict varying degrees of damage to Colonial military computers.
Viper squadrons and Battlestars that enaged the Cylon fleets were suddenly left defenseless due to the CNP infiltration; which resulted in sudden power loss and "equipment malfunctions". With the Colonial forces now defenseless, the Cylons began the nuclear bombardment of the planets, causing a holocaust and the fall of the twelve colonies.
Q: What is a Battlestar?
A: It is a Colonial capital ship that combines the functions of aircraft carrier and a battleship. It is armed with various weapons ranging from large antiship gun turrets to point-defense turrets to multiple nuclear and conventional warheads to Viper squadrons and multi-role Raptor squadrons. These goliaths of the Colonial fleet are heavily armored with reinforced bulkheads and armored plating giving it the ability to withstand brutal punishment from enemy fire as well as multiple nuclear strikes. On average a Battlestar is capable of continuing combat operations despite suffering massive damage provided that the crew is capable of maintaining basic functions of the ship.
Each Battlestar is designed to operate for long periods without re-supplying. They also are capable of undertaking large-scale repairs following battle damage. They have ammunition assembly capabilities in the armory as well as small general fabrication facilities.
Battlestars usually come equipped with a minimum of two flight pods which are mounted on either side of the hull and contain the ships Vipers and Raptors. Each pod comprises two main decks for flight operations: the upper landing bay, which extends the full length of the pod, and the lower launch bays, which provide some 40 launch tubes per pod. The hangar deck is used for maintenance, repair, refueling, rearming, and launch operations and runs the length of the flight pod.
Every Battlestar comes equipped with at least two FTL engines.
Q: What is a Viper?
A: The Viper is the Colonial Fleet's primary space superiority fighter / attack craft. The Viper Mk II was originally introduced into Colonial service shortly before the outbreak of the Cylon War where it served with distinction throughout the war. It was subsequently retired and replaced with newer models. By the time of the renewed Cylon attack on the Twelve Colonies, the Mark VII was the standard front-line model. The Viper is designed to operate in both space and atmospheric conditions.
In space flight, the Viper is highly maneuverable, dangerously so in inexperienced hands. Reaction control system (RCS) thrusters for rapid and flexible attitude control, a cluster of 3 main thrusters for high acceleration, and retractable reverse thrusters housed in both port and starboard cowlings for some degree of deceleration can subject the pilot to punishing g-forces. Its retractable landing struts can be magnetized to secure the Viper on metal decks and surfaces in zero gravity. Under normal conditions Vipers would land at gradually decreasing speed and come to a rolling stop inside the upper flight pods, during ?combat landings? the fighters will approach at full speed and skid to a stop. In atmospheric flight, Vipers consume more Tylium fuel than in the vacuum of space. In addition to greater fuel consumption, the high wing load (i.e. small wing area relative to weight) may compromise the Viper's overall maneuverability. Because the smaller wing surfaces generate less lift, higher speeds are needed to stay aloft. The fighter's RCS thrusters might partially compensate for this.
Vipers are launched via a Battlestars launch tubes (below the flight pods) which uses a simple slingshot mechanism to ?launch? the fighter into space at which point the pilot engages the engines and maneuvers the craft under it?s own power.
Weapons:2 x 30mm Kinetic Energy Weapon, 8 x missiles. Weapon hardpoints for mounting missiles / munitions pods, etc. under the wings
The Mark II is a long, sleek vehicle with specialized features for space attacks, reconnaissance, and atmospheric flight. It is renowned for being a highly agile fighter craft, capable of rotating 180 degrees vertically in .35 seconds.
It?s primary armaments are contained in the wings themselves; which houses the kinetic energy weapons, their munitions storage and feeds. Mounting points beneath the wings allow missiles, munitions pods and other items to be rack-mounted
Affiliation: Colonial
Type: Military
FTL: No
Propulsion: 3 x turbo-thrust engines mounted aft, RCS points
Crew: 1 pilot
Role: Space superiority fighter
Weapons: 3 x forward-firing kinetic energy weapons, 2 mounted towards the outboard sections of the wings, 1 x mounted in the vertical stabilizer, Weapon hard-points for mounting missiles / munitions pods, etc. under the wings.
Capable of atmospheric flight, the Mark VII is the front-line variant of the Viper design, retaining the Mark II's general layout but adding fully integrated avionics that provide superior battle management and flight information for the pilot. The Mk VII also uses the newly created Command Navigation Program (CNP) to maintain all of it?s electronic systems during combat to reduce pilot workload.
Located at the fore section of the craft are the forward RCS systems for maneuvering the fighter; the main avionics and DRADIS sensor packages (a scanner similar to RADAR in functionality).
Q: What is a Raptor?
A: The Raptor is a vehicle utilized by the Colonial military. While it is designed to perform multiple roles, the Raptor most commonly takes part in reconnaissance and scouting operations.
The Raptor is usually operated by a crew of two [one pilot and one ECO(Electronic Countermeasures Officer)], has synthetic gravity on board, and is controlled by means of a fly-by-wire system. It is capable of atmospheric flight and is also equipped with a short-range FTL engine, allowing it to make short faster-than-light hops. Due to its size and shape, a Raptor is not launched from a battlestar's launch tube, rather, it deploys from the forward end of a flight pod. The vehicle has been a mainstay of the Colonial fleet for over 40 years, having entered service sometime prior to the twelfth year of the first Cylon War.
Raptors can be armed with missiles (for attack) and various flares (to distract enemy missiles).
Affiliation: Colonial
Type: Military
FTL: Yes (short range)
Crew: 2 (Pilot and ECO)
Capacity: Approximately 5-10 passengers
Role: Reconnaissance and surveillance, electronic countermeasures support and transport
Weapons: Missiles and bombs (special missions only); normally unarmed; decoys
As a scout, Raptors can:
? Undertake short and medium-range scans to detect electromagnetic, heat or other signatures from other vessels
? Scan planetary surfaces for signs of life, energy output, or to locate and assess mineral deposits
? Scout ahead of its parent warship in other planetary or celestial systems for any signs of hostile intent or stellar conditions prior to the parent ship's arrival
? Undertake search & rescue operations
When scouting, Raptors can operate independently, or in concert with other Raptors and Vipers.
As an Electronic Countermeasures platform, the Raptor contains a full suite of electronic countermeasure and monitoring tools, enabling it to:
? Jam wireless or relay transmissions
? Scramble control signals used by guided weapons
Q: So who are the bad guys again and what is so special about them?
A: The Cylons were created by Man.
They were created to make life easier on the Twelve Colonies.
And then the day came when the Cylons decided to kill their masters.
After a long and bloody struggle, an armistice was declared.
The Cylons left for another world to call their own.
A remote space station was built...
Where Cylon and human could meet and maintain diplomatic relations.
Every year, the Colonials send an officer...
The Cylons send no one.
No-one has seen or heard from the Cylons in over forty years...
---Opening text of the Battlestar Galactica Miniseries
The Cylons (Cybernetic Life-form Nodes) are the enemies of the Colonial forces .
The Cylon hatred and envy of humanity runs deep within their programming. During their exile they made several upgrades to their weapons and to their ships, as well as some unique changes to themselves. In addition to the standard Cylon warrior (referred to as ?bulletheads?) the cybernetic race now also exists in a humanoid form (referred to as ?skin jobs?) used as the prime infiltrators in Colonial society. The humanoid Cylons can express joy, love, anger, and sadness, expressing genuine human behavior in almost every way and is a biological entity for the most part.
The most unique thing about Cylons however is their resurrection capability. If a Cylon is killed in action his thoughts and consciousness is instantly downloaded into a new body at either the Cylon homeworld or a nearby resurrection ship, making them essentially immortals.
Q: What do I need to know about Cylon attacks?
A: The Cylons have a relatively advanced level of technology than the Colonial forces and so are better equipped, physically and mentally than their human counterparts. Cylons hunt down fleeing enemies using their Basestars to pursuit and intercept their targets and once the optimum moment is upon them, they launch an all out attack.
The Cylon Basestar is approximately the same size as a Colonial Battlestar but appear to be more technologically advanced. It is equipped with a superior jump system and no visible means of sublight propulsion, lacking any engine pods or nacelles, but remain capable of chasing down a Battlestar. It can rotate it?s upper and lower halves into a tandem-Y configuration for entry into a planetary atmosphere.
Basestars operate a fleet of small fighters, known as Raiders, and are capable of deploying hundreds of these ships simultaneously. The enormous number of Raiders serves as a basestar's primary defense system. Besides this a Basestar is typically armed with Nuclear and conventional missiles, Raiders and Heavy Raiders.
The Cylon raider is thought to be wholly mechanical in design, with a high-level AI controlling it. As the primary aerospace attack craft used by the Cylons, it is fast and agile and also comes equipped an FTL drive system which is found to be far more efficient in jump calculations than Colonial FTL systems. It is armed with conventional and nuclear missiles carried in internal wing bays and two pairs of kinetic energy weapons of different calibers mounted under the leading edge of the wing.
Like its counterpart, the Colonial Viper, the Raider is capable of atmospheric operations, and retains an aerodynamic shape.
The Heavy Raider is a Cylon dual purpose attack and troop transport spacecraft. The main armament of the Heavy Raider seems to consist of a barbette of six cannons mounted under the cockpit area of the vehicle. These cannons are capable of an extremely high rate of fire. The Heavy Raiders are also capable of launching missiles.

Well that?s the basics covered.
You should by now know, who the good guys are, the bad guys, why the good guys are running from the bad guys, the various forms of the bad guys, the bad guy weapons, the good guy weapons and some basic capabilities of both sides.
In addition to the above I give you this, a minor extension to the Q&A list, where I bring up the BSG phrase kit. Some words used in the series will or might be used in this RP, so to those not in the know, below is some basic abbreviations and phrases that you might want to know before using them.
"Actual": the wireless callsign for the commanding officer of a Battlestar. Not to be confused with the Commanding Officer?s military callsign. The term ?Actual? is usually said after the name of a Battlestar thereby identifying the commanding officer and his command.
Alert fighters : The group of Vipers "standing by" within a battlestar's launch tubes with their pilots in or very near their cockpits in preparation for a quick launch. The purpose of alert fighters are to support a Combat Air Patrol with the intercept or elimination of any incoming enemy threat.
Bingo fuel: Is Viper pilot slang that indicates that their fighter's fuel reserves are too low to continue their mission and have the minimum amount of fuel necessary to return to their battlestar before running out.
CAG: The Commander, Air Group (CAG) is the senior pilot aboard a battlestar, responsible for Air Wing operations and personnel. Despite the term Commander, the position is usually filled by the senior flight officer with a rank of captain or higher. The Commander simply refers to his/her duties as the leader of the Air Wing.
CBDR: an acronym for Constant Bearing, Decreasing Range, and refers to an object on an intercept (or collision) course with a ship.
CIC: Colonial battlestars are centrally operated from the Combat Information Center, or CIC, the battlestar's nerve center. It performs both the functions of a bridge and the CIC in naval parlance, as the vessels are also steered from the CIC.
Combat Air Patrol: or "CAP", is a part of a battlestar's early response and Fleet defense posture.
CAPs typically consist of two Vipers (lead and wingman) flying a designated pattern in and around the Fleet, providing an immediate spaceborne response to incoming threats. More than one CAP may be flown at a time, with Vipers positioned at different distances and "orbits" around the Fleet. CAP flights can be reinforced by a battlestar's alert fighters .
CAPs sometimes include Raptors in a support role.
DRADIS: A highly sensitive detection, identification, navigation and tracking system, analogous in function to radar[1], used aboard Colonial spacecraft. A "DRADIS contact" is an object or objects detected by DRADIS.
Frak: A potent profanity in the language of the Twelve Colonies. It is a bowdlerized version of the real-life expletive "fuck", and can be used in the same ways.
FTL: The Faster-Than-Light drive or Jump Drive on a ship which enables a ship to travel interstellar distances almost instantaneously, by "folding up space" in between the ship and its destination.
Red Line: The Red Line is an imaginary sphere enclosing a vessel which denotes the maximum safe limit for an FTL jump.
Because of the limitations inherent in colonial technology, their ability to calculate all the variables involved in a Jump are also limited. Their margin of error increases exponentially the further out they go and as a result, there is a theoretical "Red Line" beyond which it is not considered safe to attempt to Jump.
Additional Maneuvering thrusters mounted along the vessels hull give the Orion Class battlestar greater combat maneuverability than its predecessor, the Galactica Class battlestar.
Main Batteries: 7 forward; 600kT per volley of HEAP rounds (High Explosive & Armor Piercing), 4 port/starboard; 800kT per volley. [15 Main Gun Batteries in total].
Anti-air flak turrets: 132
Point-defense systems: 72
Missile tubes: 12 (6 port/starboard)
Hull Armor: 82 in. Reinforced Titanium "ribcage" and Composite plate armor
10- Fuel Tankers (used to refuel Vipers in flight)
06- Sublight engines
02- FTL drives
Multiple maneuvering thrusters placed around the ship.
Battlestar Power Systems
Controlled Cold Fusion Reactor
Fuel: Deuterium/Tylium Reactor Core Volume: 25 cubic meters Reactor Core Operational Temperature: 75 million Kelvin Reactor Power Output: 243 MW per unit
- A Hydroponics bay for growing various foods
- Production plant for building new Vipers and Raptors on extended missions
- Flight simulators
- Research Labs (again for extended missions)
- Similar to Mercury Class Battlestars, the Orion Class can use FTL drives with the landing bays extended. The Flight Pod Arms are non-retractable.
The Phoenix was completed 2 years before the Cylon attack on the colonies, she was the first of the Orion class Battlestars named after the last commissioned warship from the first Cylon war. Picon fleet headquarters originally debated the need for such large ships which were old and in need of overhaul and eventually the decision was made to replace the old Battlestars with the newer Mercury Class Battlestar.
After the failed recon mission beyond armistance line 8 years before the cylon attack, Colonial fleet Command secretly decided that an additional class of Battlestar was to be designed and constructed incase of an advanced Cylon attack on the colonies. This new class of Battlestar would feature the hybrid of technologies between the Galactica class and Mercury Class, combining the older non-networked computer systems with modern weapons and combat capabilities. Little did the Colonials realize that by reducing the dependence on electronics and excluding the CNP software from the Orion Class that they were inadvertently saving their new Battlestar from impeding destruction.
The Orion Class designers noticed that it was unnecessary to give the Phonix more bulk than she needed so they came up with a single sized flight pod that had a smaller fighter capacity and kept the ships profile lower and more "Galactica class" like, giving her the advantage of being more maneuverable and faster than older generation Battlestars.
Phoenix was commissioned on the 11th of October, 2 years before the attack; she was immediately put on trials to prove her combat effectiveness. During trials she had problems with her loading mechanisms for the main guns which had never been used on a ship with such a vast number of armaments, it was prone to jamming. As soon as she came back from trials these improvements were made and she was re-evaluated and performed way beyond expectations.
During the surprise Cylon attack Phoenix led several other ships including, Mercury Class Battlestars; Tarus, Pacifica and Kobol and a dozen or so other support ships heading for Caprica, which was surrounded by 12 Baseships. Battlestar Kobol was the first to be destroyed when she suddenly lost power and all systems shorted out according to wireless communications between ships. The other Battlestars and support ships perished shortly after with only 5 Basestars destroyed. Phonix's Commander (Dante) ordered for a frontal charge and the firing of her forward guns on the lead Cylon Basestar, she managed to do considerable damage to it before the remaining Basestars shielded the Command ship catching the full brunt of Phoenixs' forward batteries in a last ditch attempt to even the playing field.
Phoenix took out 4 more Basestars but after a 40 minute stand off with the remaining hostile forces the situation began to look grim. Seven additional Cylon Basestars jumped into lower orbit around Caprica providing relief force to the surviving Cylon armada in the vicinity. Phonix was truly outgunned and outmanned. She had lost 4 Viper squadrons; almost 300 of her pilots and ships, her fuel reserves were dangerously low; almost 75% of her reactor mass was used in the initial 9 hours of the attack and the multiple enemy missile barrages was taking it?s toll within the ship; radiation leaks and on board fires were raging though the decks sustaining further casualties.
Her commander had a difficult choice to make. Stay and take on the 10 Basestars which would inevitably lead in the destruction of the Phonix with all hands or run to the emptiness of space. Believing that no other Colonial ship had survived the Cylon attack and realizing that the Twelve Colonies were destroyed, Dante Auriga ordered the crew of the Phonix to execute a blind jump beyond the Red Line.
The Phoenix jumped without calculations into unknown territory, intact. Her star charts and navigational telescopes indicated that her emergence point was somewhere in the distant Ionian Cluster, several thousand light years away from the Home Colonies. She was damaged, running on fumes and woefully underequipped and understaffed. Only 1200 officers had survived the Caprica counter-attack and their survival was in doubt.
Special inclusion into the character sheet is the ?traits? section. Everyone playing, including potential Cylon agents, will have good traits and bad traits. There is no limit to the traits you can have but it is considered good practice to actually RP according to the traits you state. So if by chance you list, ?alcoholic? as a negative trait then you might want to RP a bit about how alcohol takes a role in your life etc etc..

Name: Dante Auriga
Age: 47
Gender: Male
Callsign: "Sharkbait"
Role (pilot, marine, medic, etc..etc): Commander, Battlestar Phonix
Rank: Commander
Appearance: Despite his age, Dante appears in fine physical condition. His cold grey eyes calculates everything he sees. His dark hair is groomed short and his facial hair is kept closely trimmed. The events of the Cylon attack has kept him up for many nights and the bags under his eyes and the slight wrinkles speaks of the stresses of commanding the remnants of humanity.
Homeplanet: Canceron
Bio: Growing up in Canceron, Dante was exposed to very little colonial activity. When he was a boy he had heard of the terrors of the Cylon and the great war that was fought in the name of freedom and safekeeping, yet it did not intrigue him in the least bit. The affairs of man and machine was beyond him, he was happy where he was and contemplated a future of academics and law. The warfront seemed like a big and scary place.
Ironically, it was this interest in law that would eventually lead Dante on a new path to his destiny. During his college years he was selected along with a few others to attend a special guest lecture on Military Law aboard the Battlestar Sonata. This was the first time Dante would see, let alone step aboard, a fully operational warship. He was instantly taken by the dedication, conviction, efficiency and precision of the ship and her crew. Eventually, the ability to serve and protect humanity from an unrelenting foe became his life's work. He enlisted as a Colonial Officer.
Dante began with basic training, quickly becoming a qualified Viper Pilot. He was assigned to the Battlestar Helios and later the Battlestar Pegasus where he underwent extensive combat and command training. After several years of fighting the Cylons in the first war he was promoted to Colonel and served as the XO on board the Triton just as the armistice was signed. He was then approached by Colonial Fleet Command to take charge of his own command, the Battlestar Phoenix in several covert roles, spying on the Cylons.
Two years later, the Cylons attacked. Dante now faces the daunting task of getting his ship and his crew to safety and nurturing the future of humanity. It is not an easy task and the recent failure to recapture Caprica weighs heavily on his mind. Without fleet support and limited resources he is faced with two grim fates; the quick death under the hands of the Cylons or the slow decay of time.
Role (pilot, marine, medic, etc..etc): Commander, Air Group [CAG]
Rank: Major
Appearance: A tall man standing in at 6'2" with a solid build. His dark brown hair is kept short per the Colonial millitary regulations. He, like all other fellow viper pilots, is usually seen on deck in his flight suit. The strain of combat show clearly in his light green eyes and his voice rings out with an uncanny air of clarity when he speaks. His only two cherished possessions is the picture of his family that he keeps close to him at all times. A memory of the souls he couldn't save when the war broke out. The other item being the pilot wings he earned after qualifying basic flight training years ago.
Homeplanet: Caprica
Bio: David signed up for the Colonial services just a few years before the war with the cylons broke out. He had little intention or aspiration to become a fully fledged Colonial Viper pilot but he signed up because of a dare from a friend. It was only a 6 month training affair, a volunteer service promoted by a local recruitment centre to give civilians the taste of the military life and he thought it couldn't be too bad for his future, after all The pay was good!. As fate would have it, David showed excellent potential as a viper pilot and was soon approached by several officials tempting him to enlist full time in a Viper squadron. The decision was made, David entered training as a pilot candidate and was soon on his way to completing basic flight and combat training and gaining "nugget" status. After 3 years of advanced training, David was assigned to the Battlestar Aurora for a further two years as part of an elite training exercise with the new Viper Mk VII fighters. He flew over 374 sortie missions and several covert mission and was promoted to the rank of Captain. Two years had gone by in a flash and the Aurora was making it's return journey back to the Shipyard at Caprica when it was ambushed by several Basestars. During the resulting sortie David, along with the rest of the squadron pilots noticed that their fighters were mysteriously loosing power and eventually shut down. Hapless and at the mercy of the Cylons, David would have perished if it was not for the Battlestar Phoenix which suddenly jumped in at the last second to defend the fleet. Despite the best efforts of the Phonix though, the Aurora could not be saved, her reactor detonated and she was destroyed with all hands. The remnants of her surviving Viper pilots were eventually picked up by Phoenix's Search and Rescue Raptors and integrated into the Battlestars' crew. David, now a Major and the CAG aboard the Battlestar Phoenix fights to ensure the safety of the ship and his fellow pilots during such bleak and uncertain times.
