Escapees

I am getting Fallout 3 when my current cash crisis is resolved (ie, I get my next lot of student loan, and I might get Fable II as well. Gosh, what am I asking here? When I first got it, I loved the exploration and plain wandering in Morrowing, and latterly Oblivion. I love games where there are gorgeous environments I am free and encouraged to just go and play in, and explore.

Can anyone recommend any decent exploration games, if such a thing should exist, or indeed can anyone suggest any games that have a nice exploration mechanic. I have a reasonably powerful PC, and a 360. My PC is good enough for Far Cry 2. I have that, so don't suggest it.

Cheers xx

Get on an MMO and find a high-level friend. You can both explore in relative safety, and confuse those around you!

Hmmm. Not an area I can say I've ventured into before. Should I just go with WoW, and see if I enjoy it? I've always been hesitant of ending up devoting hundreds of hours of my life into something like that.

If you get addicted to games, do NOT pick up WoW. I wasted a ton of time in it, and no matter how many times I tell myself I hate it, I still consider going back for WotLK... stupid Blizzard and their video game crack.

Remember, time you enjoyed isn't time wasted, no matter how you spend it.

But if it gets boring, quit, before you stay only to hang around.

Its pretty hard to be addicted to MMORPGS unless you treat it like an MMOSG. ;)

Thats where my whole "solja boy with giant chocobo" thing came from.
At the same time, I think I might have broken someone's heart without noticing, so the social landscape of an online game can get pretty weird.

Can always purchase the Fallout Collection. It's cheap as chips, you get three games (Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics) and it will run on any computer. That's what I did since I'm stuck on my 6600GT - I'll upgrade to Fallout 3 once I can afford a full system upgrade.

Morrowind is cheap and about as huge as Oblivion...just not as pretty.
MUCH Larger even.

Even larger than Morrowind is Arena. Which is available for free download from their site!

hmm... If you had a Wii I would suggest any of the Metroid games... Have you considered the Grand Theft Auto series? I have enjoyed the exploration in those, it is quite fun. Lets see... WoW is a decent recommendation, as is Morrowind (though I'm not familiar with Arena, maybe I'll check it out).

There's also an ENTIRELY free MMORPG called Dungeon Runners http://www.dungeonrunners.com/ that is decent for that sort of thing, and it's kinda silly. It's not GREAT but it's free and has a sizable world.

One of my favourite games for exploration was Freelancer, multiplayer. The Omicron and Tau systems were amazing.

Yeah, I guess I did sort of enjoy the exploration in GTA IV. Not as much as Crackdown though, which had more rewards for wandering.

Well, anything Zelda, but that goes without saying (or does it, in our post-Call of Duty world?). Go for the Metroid Prime games if you haven't touched them and have a GameCube or can get one easily. They are amazing titles and will keep you busy for dozens of hours. If you're into power-playing them, there are a shitload of tricks and sequence breaks that you can play around with as well. Super Metroid is just as good, as well, if you can't get anything newer.
