Fuck you Ghibli.
Making cheesy and ridiculous shit that I should hate, but can't because it's so fucking good.
It's crushing my sense of manliness.

As long as Hayao Miyuzaki or whoever doesn't try to force their anti-war messages down our throat like in some of their previous films, this should be good.

Trouble is, by the looks of things, it's going to be an RPG :(

That means pointless grinding, so I'll probably we watching someone else's game on youtube.

It only takes the mere mention of Studio Ghibli to secure my interest in a project.

So they can keep their epic trailer because their work here is already done.

January can't come quick enough.

Kinda wishing the DS version would come out in the US, but eh, you get what you get.
This so much.
In fact not only that, but they need to release the book here.

For those who don't know. This game is a sequel (kindof) to a DS game. One of the main selling points of both is that you get a physical copy of a magic book that your character uses in game, and you use that book to learn spells, find secrets and generally get information about the world you're exploring.

Not only do we not get the DS version localised, but everything I've read suggests that even though we get the PS3 version, we don't get the physical book with it, instead we get shafted with a digital in game version.

It really ticks me off that this seems to be the case because the book, like the game itself looks absolutely beautiful, and as much as I want to own it, I find it hard to justify importing one when I will be completely unable to read it or even play the game.

I realise localisation must be a lot of work though, so I guess I'll just hope for an unofficial translation in rom form, I'd be more than happy to buy the game in Japanese if I had a translated version I can actually play.
Reading this just broke my heart. I'm a sucker for real-world immersion aids such as this book you speak of.

This game has been out since late last year (november 2011) in Japan, why on EARTH in this day and age does it take 1 year and 2 months to localize a game. That is just appaling.

Oh well, after checking I realized that the price has dropped from the quite frankly shocking 8,800 yen it had when I checked last to a more reasonable 4,000 yen, and now you can even get something called All-in-one edition that adds all dlc and an easy mode for just 3,200 yen so I guess I'll just buy that.

However, I still cant get over the fact that in todays modern world a game from a huge studio (level 5) and one of the worlds most well-known animation studios (ghibli) actually gets a re-release in Japan well before it is even released in the west.

Edit: Just realised that the all-in-one-edition isn't released until late July. Guess I'll have to wait a while yet, but I suppose my school work will thank me for that.

i recall the fox news thing about it
Fox News is a joke. They're basically PETA, except about politics instead of animals.
they are a joke but it was funny watching them attack arrietty and the lorax and knowing people out are taking them at there word
A little funny, but also rather scary to think that there are people out there who take them seriously (which is another trait that makes them like PETA).
I'm sorry did Fox News try to attck Ghibli... *twitch* why? *twitch*

They tried claiming that a Japanese cartoon gives a shit about American politics, basically.

While it looks amazing I do have 2 major worries when I see this:
1. The voice acting seems very bland, but hopefully one can choose the Japanese voices as well
2. More importantly, at first glance this looks like a very standard jrpg. As jrpgs are not doing so well and they really need some innovations this worries me greatly.

I really wonder how this will work out

cool i wonder what the game play is like but i may get it anyway
There are gameplay trailers available in Japanese, and make no mistake about it this is a pure JRPG in the classic Dragon Quest-type style. World map, towns, dungeons, random battles, etc. And personally that's just fine for me, I wouldn't want it any other way.

For the battle system it takes the approach where you see the enemies on screen who must catch you to start a battle, and the battle itself is some turn based/real-time hybrid where you have these little avatar things do the bulk of the fighting while the main characters support with spells & special abilities in the background.
