Personally i think its maybe a little unfair that if people Pre-Order the game they get special stuff that no-one else can get, maybe the people that dint Pre-Order wanted to, but didnt have the funds...

but on the other hand, it's cool that the developer rewards you for having faith in the game before its released and the reviews flood in, and it is it is cool to have stuff that not everyone else has, so you can kind of make yourself unique in the online community

what do you think about this?

If the content is story related in any way the game goes on my never buy list. If it's items or texture I don't care about it.

It's to bleed as much cash out of the consumer as possible. They know some are going "Well I dont know if I... HOLEY DOOLEY I GET SPECSCIAL GUN IF I PREORDER? Sign my ass up" I know, Ive done it before. I preordered Mass Effect 2 and Fallout New Vegas even though I likely would have bought them used, just because of prerelease content.

I mean a Black Hole generator and a Vault 13 suit? Sign my ass up

Though the one thing I disagree with is platform specific preorder DLC. New Vegas had a major problem with this as your specific distributor had different DLC, some of which probably didn't have any DLC at all. Sure it offers friendly competition but most of the time the mass amount of people just don't buy from one retailer because his DLC is inferior.

I always preorder games I know I'm going to get for the double points bonus. And I don't see how not having the funds comes into it, I've only ever had to pay for a preorder once, and even then it was a deposit that came off the actual game price when I bought it, so it costed nothing more than if I were buying it when it came out anyway.

It is just a developers way of saying thanks for supporting the game before it comes out, which is really nice of them.

I like it a lot - I preorder games I *know* I'll buy because you normally get a discount and you can download it as soon as it's out. If I get a sweet bonus then it's super cool, but I don't think I've ever been given anything that was so nice I'd feel like I was missing out if I didn't get it by buying the game regularly.

It'd be a bit duff if I bought a game post-release and missed out on something major (like a new character or something), but really that's a flaw with the developer/publishers way of marketing rather than the system itself.

I hate it. It means that if I at a later date decide to get into a game, I can no longer get everything I might want. That sucks.

I can see why a publisher might want to encourage pre-ordering, especially if they fear the reviews because they don't have a lot of faith in the game. But I would prefer if they would just give a discount to do that.

Edit: why did I just have to agree to the new TOS again? I already did that today... :S

I just hate when you can't get the other preorder stuff ever, or when it varies in quality from retailer to retailer. For instance - I recently preordered LA Noire from Amazon, giving me a special suit in-game that gives me a boost to fighting. I don't really care much about that. But ordering from Game (and another retailer) will give you an extra case to solve. What the fuck, guys? Just because I use Amazon as a hub, I get a suit that I really don't care about, while people who happen to prefer Game get a whole new section of gameplay.

And last year, with Napoleon : Total War, there were special units you got from retailer to retailer. And they never released them as DLC. It's just irritating to not get the units you want, even if you're willing to buy 'em, simply because the retailers want to buy customers by withholding content.

To reference another Total War game - this year's Shogun 2. It had an entire faction if you bought the limited Edition. This Limited Edition cost the same most places, but Steam did not have it, on account of normal business disputes. Countries where people can't use Game or Amazon were rather nicely screwed over, missing out on a pretty damn big chunk of content.

Really, I loathe this practice. It's mean, arbitrary, discriminatory and fucking irritating. Withholding existing content at all, be it through "editions", Day One DLC or pre-order bonuses is at best a dick move, and at its worst, it's a despicable business practice that is essentially saying, "Sure, we have this stuff made already, but we're charging you more for it, or we're gonna make you choose between the existing content and lock out the rest, simply because we can."

Fuck that.
