Well, I guess you could call me a half 100%er. Why? Because I always see to filling up the regional dex, but with so many nationaly? Forget it. Good article, as always.

If they didn't add new pokemon he'd mock them for not adding any.

Unfortunately you cannot please critics.

But seeing as he IS a critic that's his job.

I have no idea why anyone thinks pokemon is about collecting.

Everything in the games revolves around actually battling with only six pokemon.

I can understand why a child would play it, but when I hear teenagers & adults say that they are exited about the next Pokemon game I can't help but to feel pity for them.

I looked at my achievement completion percentage for games that I've finished and averaged them out. My highest was 91% for Mass Effect 2 (across about 8 playthroughs, mind you). My lowest was 14% for Red Dead Redemption (I beat the game. I spent around 40 hours playing it). My average completion was 55%.

Yeah, I just play the game and don't even care about collectibles (unless they are fun to do).

Well, I like to platinum (100% minus DLC) my games on the PS3. But If I get oral sex for it. I might as well become psychotic about it. But in all honestly, I don't have fun platinum games at times (specially having to read and re-read Gamefaqs or Ps3trophies.org or the likes) but if I plat a game WITHOUT guides. Like I did for Batman AA, I feel like If I was on top of the world!!!

I think the premise of Pokemon relies on it's audience not asking a great deal of questions. You know, people under the age of 12.

Anyway, I did catch 'em all once. All of the original 151 anyway. Now that there's over 600 or so, I don't even bother trying. Actually I'm not even playing Pokemon this generation.

Pokemon is actually well-known for online competition. Hundreds of YouTubers have made WiFi videos from 4th gen, and now they'll all transfer into 5th. However, setting up a team without hacking is almost as hard as catching them all (if you have most of the games).

My rule is, if I'm not having fun, I'm not playing anymore.
This is definitely me, though I tend to be a little more sympathetic towards the 100%ers than Yahtzee. (Not that it's harder to be more sympathetic than him...) I think of myself more as a 50%er, maybe. I like to do some of the sidequests, get some of the achievements (especially if they give me access to something handy, like Demon Doors in Fable that give you legendary weapons), capture some of the Pokémon.

Regarding Yahtzee's article, the funny thing is that, from what I've heard, the creator of Pokémon is/was an avid bug collector and (allegedly) has Ausperger's, which can make you fairly obsessive in your interests. So perhaps the game has been influenced by the creator's own mindset?

Love pokemon. I always thought it was more about "catch your favorites and watch crazy-ass monsters do battle" than ACTUALLY catching them all. The new games just give more variety in your flashy elemental pixels, they're not forcing you to catch all of them. So I guess in that sense anyone who would try to catch them all really IS mad.

The whole "catch them all" thing was kind of phased out once they realized how popular the game was and how big it would get, what with all the sequels and everything.

Notice how the new games (black and white) use the tagline "A new beginning" and NOT "Gotta catch 'em all"

It WOULD be fun to "catch 'em all", but I have neither the time, nor the attention span. Most likely if I DID find time to do that, I would end up shoving everything I find into the bowels of my PC boxes, or would just use them all for cannon fodder so I could enjoy watching every single one of them act as sacrafices for my Lv100 Swampert to tear down all those around it.

I have always wondered why Yahtzee got so many friend requests...

On topic: I often toy with the idea of hundred percenting a game, but I end up geting the distinct feeling I'm wasting my time, and stop

Some people never go crazy, what truly terrible lives they must lead.

Also imagine a life without a likitung, perish the thoughts.

A pseudo-100%er here. Let me put it this way, I don't understand me either. There's a reason why it's called Obsessive-Compulsive. On the bright side, the amount of work/pain they seem to be siccing on me for 100%ing stuff seems to be working, depending on the game involved, such that I can actually ignore not getting all the achievements and whatever nonsense.

He's got 50% of that assumption right, but I don't play Pokemon to "Catch 'em all" I play it to catch several then train them then take them either:
A. Online to dominate others
B. Take on the Battle Subway

Claiming the only goal is to "Catch 'em all" and that is the only goal is like saying the entire goal in Halo is to pick up every gun found on the ground in every battlefield before they dissapear. Then you can say, "I've used virtually EVERY gun in that games database!"

Pokemon isn't evil, its just misunderstood.
