For English Literature, I had to write an Essay on A Farewell to Arms and All Quiet on the Western Front
On the first draft, I had 5 pages at 3,200 words. The maximum wordcount is 1,700
I thought I could never get it below 3,000 at most, such was (I believed) the finesse of my writing and the lack of flab
Just today, I submitted that Essay at 1,699 words. I cannot believe so much stuff was taken out, and yet the arguments, examples and points are still there. This has really opened my eyes.
Not in a big way, of course. Flabby writing dosen't really alter my life that much, but it was still pretty shocking to find out how much I could drop.
What's opened YOUR eyes? (dosen't have to be big, impressive or even that notable)
