This is my first review here, that I can remember making at any rate, so constructive criticism and help in formatting would be welcome. I am a pretty bad speller, so if I misspell anything and it didn?t show up in spell check, sorry about that. Also, this is more of a first impressions, as I haven't beaten the game. I will update it when I finish it, though, and complete the review. Also, I don't know how to hide spoilers, so If there is one coming up, watch out for this: *SPOILER*. I know, I'm old school like that. Anyway, here goes.
This game is as good as the first in it's worst moments, and much better the rest of the time. And this is coming from a huge fan of the original fable. Like I said, I haven't gotten very far, in fact, I have only reached the quest where you are trying to enter the temple of light for the first time. It isn't from lack of trying, however.
This game is so damn addicting, every time I try to follow the breadcrumb trail, I get distracted. Be it a side quest, a job, or someone to seduce, I can never bring myself to follow the main quest. It's not that the storyline is bad, however. In fact, it's quite the opposite.
It has great characterizations, good twists, and evil villains. All in all, the story feels more like a mature child?s... fable... than an extremely serious revenge tale, which also gets it?s point across as well.
There hasn't been much that hasn't been said about the good aspects, so I will get them out of the way quickly and get on with my very few gripes. The environments are amazing, the fighting is fluid, challenging enough, and the voice acting is some of the best I have ever heard. The expression system is cool, the dog is smart, the quests are fun, and the humor is funny enough to the fact where it comes off more as satire, and not forced or obnoxious like I expected.
That being said, there are a few problems. The villagers sadly don't get you quite as attached to them as you would expect, and impressing them more or less comes down to grinding emotions until they like you. Also, the animations are nice, but jerky when walking next to the person you are following in a "cut scene", as well as the dog's animations screwing up just a tiny, tiny bit when full speed running. The last few problems I have are the breadcrumb trail messing up a lot, and the dog not being quite as Jesus like as we expected.
So far, this game is amazing and worth every penny. If you are on the fence about buying it or a 360 for it, I expect it will change your mind for the better. Otherwise, if you think bill gates is the devil and Microsoft is his dick, well then, not much at all is going to change your mind.
*EDITED* Yeah, sorry for all the mistakes. I was writing this at a library and my time was running out when I started so I didn't have much time for editing. Oh, and I will revise the entire review when I finish the game.
