I actually still own a PC copy and just finished it again a few weeks ago. Still a great game. Although it is 'casual in difficulty' and often made fun of for it, that is by no reason something worth mocking.

If you are looking for a newer yet similar game I would recommend Kingdoms of Amular. Had a very weak intro, but gameplay and art style is similar to Fable and I am really enjoying it so far.

I might pick up fable anniversary at some point, but not at full price, it seems.

I wanted this to be better, re-live on of my favourite Xbox games, but alas.... it'llave to wait till it's on sale!
Fable Anniversary is already being sold at discount: you can get it brand new for $40 USD.

OT: I've been wanting to play this game since before it came out. Never was able to, I really enjoyed the other two, so I can't wait to see what all the hubbub is all about.

I do not mind rerelases as long as they try and add to the game or polish/fix the crap that was in the old one. This is a pass....

I'm in the UK and you can get it for about £23, but as you can get Fable: The Lost Chapters for £3 I can't justify the extra £20 at the moment!

The first Fable had the most ambition of the series I feel and although it was by no means a great game, in any technical sense, that ambition and clear joy of the developers in making the game translated to a fun experience. However as the series went on, I felt Lionhead kept straying from their original vision and although the games became slightly more technically sound they really lost their ambition and charm until the point when I stopped caring.
Respectfully disagree. I felt like the first was built on hot air, dreams, fake pixie dust, wind-baggery, and jibbery-joo. Those things aside it's execution was kind of rudimentary, and outside of a few gimmicks was a step backward from better executed adventure games of the past; highly linear, short, unpolished combat, miscellaneous gripes. On the other hand I thought that, outside of it's HUGE flaws and release problems, Fable 2 was a much better game. Not perfect, not even in the ballpark of perfect, and it got a lot wrong, but it's ambition seemed much greater than the first one, again setting aside the jibbery-joo.

the Fable games have always had a wonderful charm to them, one that i've appreciated over the lackluster combat and morality choices. Especially F3. anything but melee was pretty useless by comparison. but it didn't stop me from falling in love with many of the characters.

True, I suppose. But can you hit people with a fish in the Xbox original? I think not!

I got this on launch and it's really great. Has everything the first Fable had, but with better controls and a ton of bonus outfits and items.

My follow up post after buying it is. The loading times take forever even after I installed on my 360 hard drive and it has frozen up 4 times. I have not even made it to the escort the traders quest. Sadly they broke the original with the updates. My old xbox copy never froze on me when I played it on the 360. I they hope release a patch because this game is unplayable for me. (how many times can one person repeat a quest before they say the game is broken)
