Well the postive reaction being generated is doubtlessly why they hired John Cleese to do the game and the advertisements and such for it. Basically it's working.

The ironic thing will be if you find that the majority of the development budget went to hiring him, and as great as his bit is, the rest is pretty much what you disliked about Fable (except maybe worse).... assuming of course you disliked Fable and badmouthed it.

This is a celebrity endorsement just like any other.

I am going to be honest here.

If Fable 3 allows me to keep a Harem of at least 10+ women in it, the game would be in my hands faster than my mind could react.

Peter, I avoided your hype attempts twice. YOU WILL NEVER GET ME!

That being said, I loved the first 2 Fable games, because I didn't listen to the hype.

HEED MY WORDS ESCAPISTS! DO NOT LISTEN!

It's Peter Molyneux. If you get hyped, you will be disappointed.
He fooled everyone twice. Lets hope they don't get fooled a third time. If they do, its their own damn fault.

I'm trying my hardest to be cautiously optimistic but honestly...
When this game gets seemingly better and better with every dev diary...

Damn you Molyneux...

Also, anyone else notice the parallels?

About having to make promises to the people, and you maybe not fulfilling them...
Sure he said its like World Leaders, but can't help but think its also a bit like Moleneux himself...

Little thought I had, felt like sharing.

I know the Molneux has let us down .. I can still get angry over the disapointment I suffered after 3 hours of Spore ( god damn that made me angry)

But still.. So what if it isen't the greatest game EVAR .. maybe its just allright.. or maybe.. its just you know, fun.

I know I had a few days of fun with Fable 2 (before I traded it in XD).

No thanks Molyneux, not for me.

I was actually counting down the days to Fable 2 for two months beforehand. Never been more disappointed. I guess it's kinda put me off.

Really?

Anyway I take it I wasn't the only one to skip to the parts with John Cleese in it?
My old physics teacher did a few Monty Python's Flying Circus sketches (the Zulu one is one), and he informed me that even when he was a teen (he's in his fifties, now) John Cleese was a snarky old man and a bit of a Prima Donna..

Did someone mention Peter Molyneux? Just watch the first 30 seconds of this. You'll know why I'm linking it when you get there.

I didn't think Molyneux had anything to do with Spore.

I find this diary insanely amusing, particularly after reading the comments of having to resist the hype and enthusiasm whilst remaining totally immune to it myself.

Yes, I love John Cleese myself too and for the roles he's played (including some of the voicing ones like in Shrek 2). Having said that, he isn't contributing in the writing department, only on the voice department (and very well too I might add). So if you want to play the game for that reason alone, by all means.

But if I were to deconstruct the other things that were shown in this dev diary it would be the following:

-A game that looks and feels very much like a Sims game
-No combat mechanics actually mentioned or explained (only the nebulous wishes of Peter Molyneux)
-A story structure that is, in fact, exactly the same as what was in Fable 2 (with the addition of keeping promises perhaps, though I wonder if there will actually be a negative reaction to not keeping your promises or if it'll just involve a hungry baby crying on the floor somewhere wondering 'whyyyyyyyy??' and that'll be the end of it).

Overall...*snigger* rental at most, aye. And buying it on the insane off-chance that it will actually have some content within it that hasn't been recycled 1 billion times over in the previous two Fable games.

I wonder if here as well the final phrase uttered by most of the players will be the same as that of Yahtzee at the end of Fable 2: "You can, but why would you want to?"

Peter Molyneux had absolutely nothing to do with Spore - Will Wright, on the other hand, was the lead on that one.

I wonder how you start off powerless in Fable 3 considering your brother is the Tyrant king, surely being a prince is anything but powerless?
