Fable Novel Contains Special Weapon Code

They say that knowledge is power, and in Fable 3 that's truer than it's ever been.

Rather than follow the herd, upcoming action RPG Fable 3 [http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=fable+3&x=0&y=0&ih=5_0_1_0_1_0_0_0_0_1.89_91&fsc=3 ] is blazing its own trail - when it comes to promotion items at least. The game's pre-order bonus is a villager of your own design, and now Lionhead is hiding secret weapons in books.

Fable: The Balverine Order [http://www.amazon.com/Fable-Balverine-Order-Peter-David/dp/0441020062/?ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1281740631&sr=8-1&tag=gmgamzn-20 ] is set in the world of Albion and tells the tale of two friends who go off in search of the dreaded balverine. That alone is probably enough to get some Fable fans to pick up the book, but for those who perhaps aren't so sure, emblazoned across the front cover of the book is the promise that it contains a "code to unlock [a] unique weapon in Fable 3." The Balverine Order is written by Peter David, who has worked on a several comic book series, including Spider-Man, Aquaman and The Incredible Hulk, and also wrote the script for last year's Metroid-esque action/platfomer Shadow Complex.

There's no mention of what the weapon actually is, although it would be wonderful if it were book themed. I'd like to imagine that the code is hidden away in the prose itself, and you have to read the story very carefully to get it, even though it's probably just printed on the insider back cover or something. Fable 3 is released on Xbox 360 on October 26th, with a PC version coming later. Order of the Balverine will be available slightly before then on October 5th.

Well, that's an interesting way to get someone to buy your book. May just look at it for curiosity's sake.

While I've not seen any of the author's work, the possibility of author recognition would draw more people.

I imagine it will be a code word or a special word like: Then jim ushered the word hullabaloo and was granted access to the balverine or something. and hullabaloo would be the code.

The only way I would ever buy this book is if it were a choose your own adventure thing. This code means nothing to me.

I'm estimating it will take about a day before all the codes are spread on the internet and everyone uses them.

anyone else slightly confused by the presance of a shield in the fable mythos? i mean really that might as well be the hidden weapon at this point, weve killed things with everything else with what they've gave us already :)

Wow, I can't think of anything I want less...

I mean honestly, Fable? I would read a book of the Metal Gear Solid world, or Mass Effect, damn I've even dipped into Halo... but seriously, what is there to say about Fable? Even the stories in the games themselves are dull and uninspiring.

Crazy old Molyneux, what will you think of next!

Man, what blatant commercialisation... pre order and you get this and that, special edition scores you even more shite...and if you buy this book we will throw even more crap in.

... I wonder if you will be able to get any items by , you know actually playing the fucking game.

What next, epic underwear with each MC happy meal ? I wont touch this game or book if they paid me to now, and I urge all the gamers to do the same... I mean do we really want to encourage such amounts of exploiting of the titles ?

I'm somewhat ambivalent towards this, because any sort of non-mmo, in-game item can be obtained through other means.

Buy the game, ignore everything else, hack in anything that seems significant.

Its just a con to get people to buy the book. Wait a week and google the code. Someone will put it out there.

Well wouldn't be cool if the book was full of secert codes and if you read them you'll see patterns or common words, then once you get the game you find certain NPC ask questions or quotes and you'll match the anwers up and earn extra gold or armor or weapons. But if you find all of them in the book you can find a secret Website where you entre these codes to unlocks a DLC code, then you use that DLC code to unlock Fable 3's "God Mode" or a Tresure room.

What? I thought WAY to much into it huh?

Im sorry

The fact you can 'fix' the symptom doesnt mean the issue is fine... its definetly going the wrong way.

The issue started small , with none in game stuff for special editions... been like that for a while, but in game items started sneaking in and was a success now its been shoveled in nearly every pre-order and special editions, now a few none gaming items have codes attached for unlocking stuff in game.

Where will it end ?

Look at mmo's ...even the subscription ones have items you can buy, biggest scammer is that start trek one... fuck they stopped short of flogging off the Enterprise for a few bucks.
My point is that its a bad trend that can only get worse, and the only way to tell the suits at thier board meeting we dont want this is to hit thier profit margins.

I didn't know about this book until the newspost, funnily enough. Either way, I think that's a sale - item or not.
