I wasn't sure what to do with this review. I wanted to write about something, mostly because I was bored. I was considering looking at some manga artists working in recent art-movements, or at a visual novel I've had my eye on for a while now, but I wanted to save those two things, because... eh?
So, instead, I give you Facade. Facade is an interactive piece of fiction; the premise is simple. After ten years, you go to meet your friends, Trip and Grace, who you hooked up. They've since gotten married, and you decide to go visit them for drinks. When you actually get there, things turn... *ahem*, dark.
First thing's first, it's not a traditional visual novel/sandbox affair. One noteable thing about the game is that your primary way of interacting with characters is through a text parser. You use this to talk to the characters, and their comprehension of language is incredible. They understand verbs, nouns, adjectives, threats, icy death glares, having a dildo thrown at them (you can do this) and you getting drunk and making out with their married partner. You can do all of those things, by the way.
Next thing: The characters. They're annoying. They're whiney. They're stupid, and when the only two characters in the game are hated by the fandom of all groups, then you really have to learn to write. Trip is assholish and annoying, and Grace is whiney and although a big part of her character is her artistic aspiration, her skills are... some of her sculptures are impressive, some others are either a dildo or two men having anal sex. So no. No artsy here.
Nex thing: How does it look, and how does it sound? Bad. Everyone's robotic, and stiff, and it looks... weird. It merges, so even their clothes seems odd. No, not odd. Downright horrible. While the bland, annoyingly simple art style seems like a good attempt at seeing Trip and Grace's boring, unhappily-wed lives, it just shows itself up as indication that the creators looked at the concept sketches and thought, "Yeah, this is alright".
Just look it up.
So, is Facade worth your time? Of course. Is it good? Hell no.
