Is it just me is Facebook the new pedophile hotspot? It came to my attention when a number of my friends (don't worry, I'm actually rather young) said they are attending and event called "most beautiful teen contest" (https://www.facebook.com/events/285914161512659/ )run by a man called Brandon Laus. From the looks of his photo, he isn't a contest organizer is he? A executive for a magazine? No, of course not. This guy appears to be getting girls to send in pictures of them selves, probably for his own masturbatory purposes. My point here is, does anybody think that this is the most despicable practice on social media right now (apart from real child abduction and abuse of course) ?

What about those people who vandalise FB memorials for dead kids?
That is a pretty big dick move. I've never encountered it though.
Me neither, just heard about it in discussions of how terrible FB is, or if laws against doing that sort of thing is violating free speech.

The event isn't showing up so I can't say for certain, but it could go either way. There are child models in the world, they are used in commercials, magazines, photography, etc. This could very well be a company seeking out talent. There is a chance this could be a pedophile and definitely a chance that it will attract pedophiles, but I don't think a pedophile made it.

You see I work in news so I hear all the stories of adults trying to luring underage individuals. They seem to occur mostly in chatrooms or directly through the child's facebook page or sometimes through craigs lists ads. A facebook event much like the criagslist ad would of been much like an advertisement. For example they it would of said something along the lines of what the pedophile was into. "Best Teen Legs" or "Best Teen in Swimsuit" making something so generic just doesn't seem to be what someone seeking sexual excitement would do.

As for your main question, its always been like this. Every social media has predators. I recall back in the late 90s early 2000s being approached by a predator in a yahoo chatroom. Then later on in 2010 I was searching for jobs in a criaglists film/tv side and one ad was requesting "looking for kids 8-15 models for film. Please send pictures of your eyes open underwater." Now it might not be something, but it was rather random and without explanation.

My point is where there is access to children there will be child predators.
