Facebook and YouTube: When will they stop changing?

I've logged into YouTube today to find that they've changed the video layout. Again. Facebook and YouTube have been changing their layouts a lot recently to 'create ease of use' for all users. But all that it really seems to have done is annoy the existing ones by taking the layout that they had just finished removing all the bugs from and replacing it with a new buggy layout.

If I didn't know better, I'd say that this is a plot by the programming teams to keep them in a job. Wait, I probably am going to say that.So what're you're thoughts on these constant hated changes? Will they ever learn that people like their layouts to stay the same?

I honestly don't care. People whine about the changes, but then forget what the sites even looked like before. It took me all of a minute and a half to get used to the new layouts, so it doesn't bother me at all.

I agree with rainbowloid. Although it can be annoying when they add fifty adverts per square inch to both websites it's not something that I noticed too much.

If they kept their layout the same for the entire time the sites were running, people would grow tired and eventually leave looking for pastures new. I bet if you looked at the original FB or YT it'd be like looking at the original Phantasy Star's graphics compared to FFXIII's or something.

Also agree with Rainbowloid, the designs of the sites have to evolve to compensate for new web browswer technologies etc. and also to just plainly keep up with the times. If everyone was scared of change, no change would happen and we wouldnt have shiney new things to play with.

*Edit* most of the changes they make i dont mind and any i dont like i get used to within 5 minutes anyway, if you look at any websites design history it will have changed a great deal. It's just that YT and FB do it more often (or it is noticed more often) due to the fact that they have millions of users each.

Actually I like the new video layout for YouTube.
However, the Beta Channels and the new comments system suck hard.
So, I think that they're changing layouts to either conserve bandwith or because it is somehow profitable, mainly via advertising.

Every time facebook changes its layout the same thing happens. We ***** for about three days then just get used to it. The site does the same thing so I don't really care.

There are worse evils in the world.

Do you get half the video screen taken up by adverts too?, I thought it was just my opera not being the industry standard browser.

I'm fine with the changes, I hardly use my facebook because I don't understand how to work it and judging by how long my friends are on it for, I'd happy that i'm an idiot.

My browser/screen res is huge (on a 20" monitor, using a Mac/Firefox browser) but YouTube just has ads before popular vids thanks to the Partner program, big banner adverts everywhere... ugly but easy to ignore I find :)

Humans are subject to constant change. Facebook and youtube will always change no matter how annoying they might become.

Never.

They'll keep improving the way they have. Granted, a lot of said improvement breaks features that we initially used them for, but you have to remember that there's a larger amount of people on the site then there were in the past and they have different priorities than us.

That being said, it's a bit of a social network cycle. The more active users will eventually get tired of the changes that they don't like and move to other networks. If they can get their followers/friends to follow them that will be the next big thing. Until that site changes too much for their taste as well.

Granted, in terms of video we've never seen the move really take place yet. Although a substantial amount of people have migrated to places like Daily Motion, Veoh and others sites when their favorite uploaders moved there for a while. Most of the time the bigger content creators noticed the lack of new viewers they could gain on those sites and headed back to YouTube.

Plus it's easier to move to a different social network like FaceBook and Twitter than it is to move your entire content to a new site.

I'm annoyed with the Facebook changes just because I have to recode my custom layout.
Youtube isn't annoying, I like the new Youtube player. The changes are usually better, and if they add things that annoy you take them out.

Most changes are for the better and sometimes pave the way for new features, they are welcome.

Haha :p

I really wanted the 24" but sadly I couldn't afford to throw a week's wages at it just for that.

Back on topic: Does anyone remember/have a picture of what YT and FB looked like about four years ago? I honestly can't even remember.
