After a nice hour or so of watching youtube videos I decided to check out facebook.
Imagine my suprise that I found the entire profile page has had an overhaul.

Cant really upload a picture, so ill give it a quick rundown.

-Friend / like pages / pics and all that is on the left side.
- status updates on the right,
- on top you have your outlay and profile pic still, but they added some tabs ( about / friends / pictures, all that)

So basicly it is as if they pressed that one option you have in power point; one big box up top and two vertical ones side by side.

Knowing how much the internet usually loves the change of a major site, what is your thought about it?

Personally i think i just need some time to get used to it, i still remember the uproar facebook caused when they changed it last time, adding the outlay photo and all. But when people got used to it, they started to accept it more.

On the other hand, it does feel to load slower now.

Has it not been like that for a while now?
I don't really care either way about the changes. I don't think they look good, but I don't look at my own page much and even when I do it isn't for long enough to care.
I remember when it was all just a list of stuff with a picture at the top.
Hell, I remember when 'becoming a fan' of a page showed up in chat boxes. I'm so hipster 8)

Came onto Facebook, noticed everything looked different, closed Facebook.

It has been years since I cared about social media. These changes don't even elect that much of a response out of me anymore aside mild irritation.

I just don't understand why these companies feel the need to completely resort everything.

They don't just have a small team making a few needed updates and changes as required, and shipping the small change on a regular basis with a note *We've edited the friends tab! You can now subscribe from a new button* etc.

They employ someone to overhaul everything on the site, whether it needs changed or not. And oddly enough the designers always have a bizarre fascination with taking the most used, useful buttons and placing them behind several menus and option boxes that just make them more of a hassle to find and access. (Even the Escapist's guilty of this)

It's rediculous, you don't walk into a supermarket and find the milk is suddenly stored by the doors and you must pass through the toilets to get to the checkouts, because REDESIGN!

These big sites were designed perfectly fine before they started messing with them every year or so. A few minor changes when needed at regular intervals is a much smarter, easier to handle, and consumer friendly way to keep your site fresh and up to date.

Ah the joy of deleting a facebook account...

You really should post a picture about it though, are you really incapable or do you just not know how? all you had to do was press the "Print Screen" button, crop, edit, then post to some image sharing site like tinypic or something and then embedding it here.

But from what you described the changes sound... very fancy but not very efficient.

Let's step back in time and look at history *flashback harp plays*

First, Facebook took over the world. No one knows how or why this happened. Experts agree this was a very bad thing.
Second, every website in the world changed its layout to look more like Facebook.
Third, Facebook changed its layout...to look more like Facebook.
Fourth, the world begins to tumble towards Armageddon as the Internet recursively attempts to look even more like Facebook than Facebook, forcing Facebook in turn to look more like itself than the things which look more like itself than itself.

...and that's why Windows 8 is terrible. No, wait, I think that was the wrong sum-up.

I quite like the change. It feels cleaner, more minimalistic, and easier to navigate.
