I noticed that the articles in the Escapist now come with the handy ability to comment via Facebook. After exploring through several different articles I was amused to find that all these comments seem sterilized, they never say anything really critical or opinionated and all are brief and unnessecary.
This could be because of the loss of annonymity, and the vunerability of personal information available on Facebook profiles directly linked to the post. The posters don't want to say anything controversial, as if someone disagrees, they could be personally attacked.
How much benefit do you think anonymity has had to internet forum comments, and do you think that the quality and range of discussion that we can have has been improved or diminished because we do not have to personally answer to our comments?
Also, have you ever posted in the escapist or another site via your Facebook profile, and did it affect the way you commented?
