Facebook is an excellent tool for the following things.

- Following relationship statuses in your main feed. (Prevents the whole "So how's the girlfriend/boyfriend? I hear you guys are quite the couple. Oh, you broke up? Oh...)

- The event creation tool is a great way to make your parties or gatherings known while allowing all the guests the comfort of seeing if their friends are going, as well as all the information pertaining to the location, time, day and what's to be expected.

- Posting photo albums for friends and family to see. Much like a Flickr account, but more friend friendly with tags and what not.

- Birthday reminders are always nice too for the forgetful friend.

Other than that the rest is fairly useless. E-Mail was invented for a reason.

Anyone Australians who remember that Corey kid who threw a party when his parents were away will see why this is a bad thing.

I only got one because I thought it might not be as bad as I expected. I was so very, very wrong.

I used to think social networking was a waste of time, as I figured it was pretty much just for the overly popular folk who get text messaged on their cell phones every day, and who are the topic of conversations that consist of "Like, oh my god, she's going out with that guy!" and "He got totally drunk at Friday night party #3017."

One of my friends actually would have had no way of contacting me after the first time we met if we didn't both have facebook. Also, I have gotten invitations to stuff that I wouldn't have otherwise, which is good, even if it's just a "Here is this automated invitation that you have simply for being on Some Guy's facebook friends list."

There has been the occasional friend request from people I've never really talked to, and who hardly/never talk to me, even on facebook. I've been guilty of this too (adding someone on facebook and not talking to them simply because I have nothing to say), but then again, it might prove to be useful if, say, we ever end up going to the same college, getting the same job, etc.

In my place of origin in the south west of England, the majority posses Bebo. Because my fellows in this location are mostly chavs so I now have a hatred for it, I had one when it wasn't dubbed cool then it changed to a chav fest. I have a facebook but I'm soon to be deleting it because I don't do anything on it. I don't like profile pages on a whole, I don't see the point.

I got a MySpace back in high school because I was an idiot. Now, it's how I keep in contact with my friends from back home (some of whom are still in high school, but the rural community I'm from seems to have shunned Facebook).

I got a Facebook because my roommate last year harped at me till I got one. I'm never, ever, ever on it. It's a waste of time and makes me feel more antisocial than I (think) I am.

Myspace is infested with bots and other spammers, and the creators seem to be trying to make it more like Facebook.
Facebook is a clusterfuck of confusing interfaces and stupid, redundant "friend applications".
Although, I have quite a few good, real life friends today because of Myspace, so I can't really trash it too bad.

It's "viral networking" is good for musicians and people who want to talk to artists via their personal accounts. My own account is as a musician and while I find it (myspace) to be distasteful, overall, it serves a useful if not nessecary evil.
Believe it or not...more and more people (especially actors and musicians) are marketing themselves over myspace. It allows more exposure for less effort.

I had a MySpace once. I deleted it because it started to go all ads and bullshit. So I got a Facebook. And now, it is all ads and bullshit. Fanfriggintastic. It's just not worth it.
Again, the opportunity to advertise yourself (especially if you are in business for yourself) is worth it.

Just don't make more than $250,000 in a year.

Personally I've never seen the point of social networking sites. I have a profile on MySpace and Facebook, MySpace I never go on, and Facebook I'll check on the very rare occasion that I've been tagged in a photo or video.

Really, what is there to do on them? Post pictures and videos that your friends have probably already seen and leave comments on them that you could have called/e-mailed to tell them? Doesn't make much sense to me. Some people have said it's good to keep in touch with old friends who you no longer live near to, I understand this I guess. But I just use MSN Messenger for the same purpose. Less complicated, and instant. No waiting for replies.

The one purpose I do see for MySpace at least (Because I'm not sure if Facebook does this or not) is for musicians. Amateur musicians can upload their songs and get noticed. A few artists have already become famous through it, and if you can sift through the mountains of shitty artists on there you'll eventually find a diamond or two.

Anyway, I'm certainly in the minority here, and I'm damn proud of it.

I don't have Facebook or MySpace, and I'm exactly the type of person social networking sites appeal to (the late teen/early twenty-something undergrad).
