As you are probably aware of by now, the game Fallout New Vegas has been released.

Thus game introduces from earler in the series a reputation system and a seriesof factions for the player to help or even join.

Factions such as the New California Republic, the crime lord Mr House, or the slaver army known as Caesar's legion.

The idea of factions has always interested me in games and with fallout being set in a post-nuclear war time, it seems like the perfect setting for factions such as these to arise.

My question for you today is this:

If such a post-apocalyptic world was to one day come about, what sort of factions might emerge?

If you choose to respond to this question, please bear in mind that I will need a reason as to why you think such a group would be created.

Looking forward to what you guys come up with :)

No matter what time or year it is, or even type of world we live in there will allways be nazi's. Just look at Metro 2033.

1. Tribes/Community's. This is small groups of people that gathers together in order to continue humanity (By natural means) Survival (By helping eachother gathering food and being a larger flock to scare away dangerous animals) And Socialization. (Because humans are that way)

2. I guess the tribes/communities would go together to form a clan/town and the different clans gathering together to make a Kingdom/goverment. (Like the good old days)

3. Prewar Factions that prevailed. Goverments sealing themself away waiting for a time to go back and take control. Island nations that didnt get hit by the incident, or the idea of the old world living on in those who survived.

4. Thieves. As people gather food and establish tribes trading with eachother people who dont want to earn an 'honest' living might steal from those who do for survival. Doing this with weaponry meant for wild animals or made before the incident in order to wage war.

5. Religion/ideals/codex is bound to rise up. We cant explain why we are here so we will make something up solution. We want to do what is right, but need a greater reason to make the people gather below our banner.

A lot more than theese probably count. We are humans, we find a way to survive and ehm. History repeats itself?

If such a post-apocalyptic world were to one day happen, one thing people are going to want is some kind of release from the crazy shit suddenly going on (i.e. narcotics). Drug factions would surely eventually rise to strong power because even in a wasteland, people have their vices.

Just my opinion.

I'd start my own super-cool awesome faction, and if nobody wanted to join it then too bad for them, they obviously aren't rad enough.

Yeah, this makes sense.

I figure there'd also be a group of naturalists and hippie-types who would be actively trying to rebuild from the devastation. Chances are good they'd be pacifists, and would probably eventually have to enlist the aid of some mercenaries (probably prewar military) to protect them from bandits attempting to steal their stuff.

I'd think of more, but I'm tired. Might come back to this tomorrow.
