Anyone notice how threads that otherwise seem to be insightful and original are bogged down, and often ignored by yet another thread asking "Whats your favourite movie?"

Does anyone else find it frustrating when this happens? You put a lot of effort into trying to make a thread with good punctuation, a good topic sentence, and then someone else comes along and slaps down, "Whats ur best enemy?"

Then, your thread gets buried underneath the weight of a dozen other threads that have already been done to death.
Does this bother anyone?

It's a pity, but it's far easier to post on 20 thin and pointless threads than one that requires thought.

Such is life.

Ha, WTF this thread has been done before... Quite recently... This is very odd indeed, you wouldn't think a thing like this would come up often.

My friend if the forums annoy you join an active user group. It makes the site a lot better.
Exactly, kind of amusing since that's exactly what the OP means - you watch, this thread'll die under a new "vs." thread......

='[ That very thing happened to me, when I came up with a topic I was convinced would have billions of people queuing up to respond to...

Why yes, Yes I have had that happen [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.183180-Adult-Swim-Bumps#5466379].

It's cool though, 'twas posted at a bad time.

I can't say it doesn't annoy me a little, granted, this only took 15 or so minutes to write.
Take it away, Frank!

It bothers me, I made a thread about a month ago that I believe was original, couldn't find anything when I searched.

No responses for Emilee :(

Maybe you just don't have an interesting topic?

Believe it or not, people are not avoiding you thread becuase a easier one to answer comes by. Its becuase they have nothing to say, or are uninterested in the topic.

People kind of want a McDonalds in-and-out posting rather than a Five Guys Burgers and Fries poetry on a bun. They want a 90 minute action flick rather than a 2 hour action epic.

They want to kill a metaphor with a drive-by, rather then pretend to be it's friend for years and then quietly slit it's throat.

That's a great metaphor
[sub]A metaphor in a metaphor?! *World implodes slightly*[/sub]

Anyway yeah, people are lazy I suppose. Or it was a boring topic. Or they're all scared to be first to post.

If we wanted to think, we'd actually participate in class, and who wants to be that brown-noser?

Besides, outside of politics and pop culture, most people don't really have strong opinions.

It isn't easy to create thread with a hundred posts unless its about "customer service" then it would be at least 7 pages long and damn near everyone on the escapist would post some reply. People have to relate to your thread, basically. They have to feel like they brought something into the thread. People around here don't post unless it is of some substance(most of the time).

Generally people don't like to put effort into doing things, especially if it's on a gaming website.

Insightful threads have the potential to change people's lives, but it requires effort on their part. Pointless threads about things such as Lady Gaga, Naruto or Pokemans generally get the highest responses because they don't require much thought or effort.

To put it bluntly, everybody loves cotton-candy.

I've noticed that threads that seem to do a little better are those that are tended to by the OP, kind of like a garden. If you respond to the posters a little more you'll keep them interested.

Quote them directly when they make a good point or ask a question, that sort of thing. That will get some back and forth going that keeps your thread on the first couple of pages.

Thats Life! Its a shame that you can spend alot of time creating a post which eventually vanishes into the abyss but its just the way these forums work.
What may be interesting in your eyes may not be interesting for others, its a shame but i'm sure you'll cope with it.

Most of my threads end like that. My most successful thread is a thread I made two hours ago, about a boy being suspended for long hair.

I guess sometimes I find that I don't have much to say in response to the more in depth and thought out threads, often for the very reason that they are thought out and in depth. If someone has already presented their world view with accompanying cliff notes, and then asks for discussion on a very specific point, either I have to go in there, wade through the argument and start nitpicking their points, or I can ignore it.

A good thread should provoke discussion, but not shut people out. Just having a thread which has lots of long answers is not a good thread (although ironically my answer is becoming pretty long). I also think a lot of people think their ideas for threads are a lot better than the idea actually is.

"Who has the best avatar?"
"How did you pick your avatar?"
"Behind the avatar"...
"How did you pick your username?"

People like superficial fluff...
