Was spamming the man hero's "X" feature in short bursts to kill off the guys really easy until I overloaded it so 75% of the left side of the screen is now the expanded version of the beam

They're Murlocs from World of Warcraft. Specifically the ones from a series of missions that end with you dressed up like a Murloc running through a cave with a white flag.

Murlocs were also in Warcraft 3
