Recently I've been having a problem, when I go to certain sites I'm getting redirected to one of those fake "your computer is infected with viruses let me scan it for you" sites. I've been running virus scans on my system and nothing seems to be working.

Do you guys have anything you think might work?

Also I feel like it should be mentioned that these malicious redirects so far have only happened when I've come here. I don't know if their related or anything I'm just putting it out there.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

The first thing I always do if I get a virus that the usual programs won't tackle is go looking for folders and such you didn't create. Usually you can find more about viruses and how to get rid of them by Googling "Virus" followed by whatever specific webpage it brings you to.

Also, by "not working" do you mean "not functioning" or "not functioning effectively"? If it's the former, your registry has probably been altered.

Try changing your browser may work, otherwise I'm really unsure, especially if your security isn't catching it...

Yeah, those are definitely bad. Your computer is not infected (unless you click anything other than the "close" button up in the top right) except maybe by some spyware from a slightly less trust-worthy site that's noticing that you come here a lot.

Delete and reinstall the browser if its not too much trouble and look for some spyware program since antivirus doesn't always catch those.

Hm that sounds interesting, next time it pops up I'll look it up.

Also by not working I mean they haven't found any viruses, at least not the one that's causing this, but they still scan properly.

Thanks.

If to comes to that, I suppose I'll have to try it...

By the way what's the difference between a spyware program and an antivirus program, exactly? Just so I can be sure.

Sounds similar to a system tool. The first thing it does is effect the browser. I had to just search around for a crazy named file like "hjhjhjhjhjhhjhjhjhjhjhjhjhhjhj" and delete it. If not then just reinstall the browser.

A good registry cleaner will deal with that, and there are programs that are designed to find folders that you don't create, or authorize and deals with them.
Hm, I will have to look for one of those. Do you have any specific suggestions?

I was getting redirected to those fake sites before myself, about two months later my hard drive crashed and my computer no longer started, so take it very seriously.
Shhiiit. I really don't want it to come to that...

It seems like reinstalling my browser seems to be a piece of common advice. I guess I'll have to try that first.

Thanks you guys, this really helps.
