I never had a problem with voice chat, but then again I only used it with Halo 2 back in the day.

As a side note, who uses Ventrilo for XBL? Hell, who uses Ventrilo at all? It's terrible.
Lots of people use Ventrillo, tons and tons of guild in World of Warcraft have vent servers and the quality is much better than the Xbox live chat most of the time, and in fact me and some friends use a vent instead of Xbox live chat when we play some nights.

back on topic...Hopefully this might actually help me distinguish the voices of my friends in an Xbox live party and I wont have to use a guild vent for arranging a strategy in a game of Battlefield.

The crappy quality of the Live chat functionality is magnified when you move on to a high quality headset, like my Astro A40s. People still sound like shit in crystal clear 7.1 surround!

Hopefully this is the beginning of realisation that Gold membership should be used to improve gaming infrastructure, not pay idiots to supply us with outdated gaming information and infantile humour.

Fingers crossed, ay.

It's not needed. What kind of deuce wants to be heard clearly?
... But, than again, it could be fun. Just hope the 11 and 13 year olds will stay the FUCK OUT OF THE CHAT MORE!

... Other than that, I'm totally cool with it.

I hope this fixes the problem were my Ax Pro headset is constantly streaming, subtle, yet annoying static.

Sure I guess. Other than the odd echoing or teakettling I haven't really encountered this. Although I use a wired headset. As long as it doesn't kill anything I don't care.

I wonder if this will make people sound better when I am in the middle of getting my headset. They sound terrible coming through the TV.

When I had Live a few years back I always wanted better muting options. While it's great that you can hear your friends better, I would much rather just take off the headset most of the time because it gave me a headache. No reason to go back now, though, the shrill voices in clear sound would probably be equally intolerable.

I'm just scared for what people will actually hear now because at least the static somewhat shielded the innocent. Ah well, the new Xbox Live Voicechat: Great for friends, Great excuse for aspirin!

What they really need to fix is the party system's constant crashes. I've yet to play a single full night of gaming where I don't have at least one party drop issue. Some people have it worse than others but it's more than annoying when it's use is integral to playing online and it has such a high fail rate.

Garbled speech is better than no speech at all!

How about if Americans had a "clean-out-their-ears" day and learn the difference between a British accent to a New Zealand accent?

Oh, and a "Get better at Halo" day too so they can back up their shit talk.

I really hope this means I will no longer sound like one of those screechy 11-year-old boys now. Too bad the ACTUAL screechy 11-year-old boys will be easier to hear, too. Ugh/

I read 'Fail Xbox Update (...)' :)

Anyway: let's hope it really gets better. Or scaled according to your bandwith.
