Those dreams where you are falling and right when you hit the ground you wake up.
What do they mean?
What are your falling dreams about?

My falling dreams is just that I'm walking and i trip and right before my face contacts into the ground I wake up.

Cant be bothered looking up what the falling aprt means but i can tell you why you jerk awake.

It's you brain causing a your leg (usually) to jerk violently, to make sure you arn't dead.

Apparently its a reflex that evolved from when we used to sleep in tree's to hide from predators. Obviously, sometimes you'd fall so your brain makes you stick out your limbs to grab branches. I think I heard that on QI.. and I'm sure Stephen Fry did a better job explaining it :p

I had those dreams too when I was younger. I thought they meant that I was really anxious about the really steep stairs in my house (I didn't used to walk very well, and was clumsy as well).
Probably means a different thing for everyone. But I'm no psychologist; a manifestation of some sort of anxiety, maybe?

Interesting... I never seem to get falling dreams. I have dreams about living sandwiches, evil supermarkets and secret mech development islands. (really)

I had it once, felt like a rollercoaster to me, I probably had it for a similiar reason to the above post.

Well, I've heard that those falling dreams mean you don't have enough time in your life, or something like that.
I've had similair experiences, but mine were only short, I don't hit the ground and they were more positive in a "whee, I'm floating!" kinda way.

I'm always encased in darkness, falling backwards. I never know what I'm falling off of or what my body is rushing toward; I just fall.
I don't know what they're about, but they're more mild than most of my dreams are.

i have heard that they cause a stress reaction - release adrenaline, to basically check if you are alive. thats why you jerk awake and feel like you actually fall.
because when dreaming your brain "powers down" it feels it just has to check its still alive.

I have those too, I'm glad I'm not the only one. It probably means you're afraid of falling to a clumsy painful death, which is understandable really.

I have a sort of dream like those. I don't actually dream of falling or get the sensation of falling, but I do feel a bit of tension or anxiety moments before my entire body jerks me awake. Girlfriends have told me that I've pushed them or kicked them out of bed or thrown pillows off the bed during these episodes.

I've also apparently had screaming episodes. Not fear screaming, but that "Let me see your war face" kind of screaming.

So, anyone know a good psychiatrist?

Naw, you should just come with me to become a Maori. It'll all work out in the end.
Outstanding! Where do I sign up?

Back on topic, though, I just recalled a recurring dream where falling is a method of transportation in a dystopian wasteland of tall, mangled towers of iron and concrete leading to the bowels of a cold, dead planet. Kinda like rappelling through The Real, but without ropes.
I usually wake up with a "WTF" sensation, though.

I have falling dreams all the time. No clue why they happen, but the adrenaline release seems to be the most prominent theory.

I very rarely remember my dreams, sadly. I can interpret others' dreams (assuming I know them decently well) but I can't even remember my own...

I had a similar dream, but I wasn't falling. Instead I teleported to an parallel dimension inside a carpark that had ruined office blocks with cars stuffed in the windows. I got there by using a makeshift skateboard slingshot in the top floor of an estate agent. No shit. It was weird.

I don't have falling dreams per se but it's more like placing your foot down and then realising there's no ground there, that's when I wake up.
