Right, to clear things up for everyone around here: Australia is getting Fallout 3. This is directly from a retailer. They're still taking pre-orders, even after the RC announcement. It just so happens it will be modified and that Bathesda has already foreseen the rating verdict and planned accordingly.

No, I do not know when the modified version will be put up for classification.

But surely this will still mean Aussies will buy it from overseas sources to get their hands on the copy the rest of the gaming world has, I know I would if I was Australian.

The only thing I can think of which will be cut is the use of drugs in the game. This is something which I cannot understand as it is fictional drug abuse of what are (most likely) fictional drugs anyway, such as Jet and Buffout - and I doubt the risk of game-induced inspiration is strong enough to persuade the general public to immediately go and smack themselves up en masse after they have just given their character in Fallout a dose of Jet. To my mind it just doesn't entail enough of a risk to constitute a refused rating.

There just seems to be little or no incentive for Australian gamers to buy the modified version, aside from the negligible inconvenience of importing it coupled with (I imagine) a slightly higher cost.

We just get our games cheeper with full content from Ebay. In OZ a law like this stops nothing, most gamers are over 18 anyway.
EDIT:

We pay more from games for no reason, so geting something shiped from across the world is a price cut for us.

HEAR THAT, WE PAY MORE AND THEREFOR LIKE GAMES MORE THAN YOU!

*joke.

Amazingly, this has turned out perfectly.

Considering the absolute abortion that is Fallout3, be glad you can't get it.
