Fallout 3 Crashing on my PC

I got a new computer recently, and I discovered that I could run Fallout 3; so I installed it, and started it up. I got to the point where you finish designing your character, then the game crashed. I started it again, and it crashed a bit later. I went to a forum post and found some advice saying to Disable Visual Themes in the properties of Fallout3.exe
This helped a lot, and got me to the 10th birthday party section, when it suddenly crashed again. Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this issue?

My PC is an Asus B43J Series
Specs:
Intel 15-560M, 2.66GHz
ATI Mobility Raedon HD 5470 ; VRAM 512mb
4GB RAM

I would appreciate any help concerning my problem.

EDIT: I do run Skype in the background, not sure if that actually changes anything, probably not
