I'm getting Fallout 3 soon, and I wanted to know the pros and cons of the good and evil "karma" or whatever.

Edit: Okay, thanks, I'll just not worry about it. That seems to be the general consensus.

Pro: It's still fun, who cares about the karma-system? Just buy the damn game.

It doesn't matter that much, play whatever way you feel like! I ceartenly feel evil today mohaha!

The biggest differnce beetween godd and evil is wich places you will hang about in, and thats about it.

Pro: If you're evil, you can do whatever the fuck you want.

con: good sucks.
But in the end, when you are evil, you'll be so very, very alone.

If you're evil, lots of people hate you and you're slightly richer, but you foster hatred and murder, so you're about par for the course.

If you're good, well, you shake things up a bit.
I especially love blowing a certain white-suited jackal's head off, not to mention his employer's cranium.

Of course, you could side-step the whole thing and do whatever you feel benefits you most at the moment.

Nuke a town here, save a village there, become a cannibal, whatever you like.

Evil is alot easier since you can kill wandering merchants for caps and ammo. You can also kill everyone and steal everything not nailed down in megaton before you blow it up. That and the fact that your Tenpenny Suite is infinitely better then your Megaton house.

No pros or cons to either of 'em. You won't be actually praised or respected for anything you do when you play as a saint, other than from a lunatic with a radio channel and when you're a known mass murderer the wastelanders and settlers still will gladly sell you ammo, explosives and supplies to help you extinct them. The only impact you're roleplaying has is on the outcome of the quests you do and their direct aftermaths.

Actually, the rewards for being evil aren't as jacked up as you'd think they'd be. It's not very rewarding. The number of evil characters in the game (the ones that aren't sizing you up for a coffin, at any rate) are greatly outweighed by the number of neutral or good.

Stealing: Stealing makes you lose a laughably tiny bit of karma. It's dumb really. My "Last, Best Hope for Humanity" character was a complete kleptomaniac. All you need is a decent Sneak skill (I swear this is the only Fallout where Sneak is useful). And guess what? People don't have good items to steal! Their houses are full of junk. You'll rarely find something you want that is in someone's possession that isn't yours already.

Murder: This is a big karma hit, but really, I've never gotten angry enough to blow someone's head off. Plus, all their friends will be angry at you.

Plot Choices: You miss out on a lot of services from grateful people. People will be angry, maybe hostile if you stab them in the back. Simply not worth it.

This doesn't really matter by endgame, because you're a walking tank by then and people can't really do anything to stop you. But early on, be good. Nothing is worse than having to fight off an entire town with a 10mm pistol.

pro: choice! Cause everyone likes choice...

con: way too easy to be evil. Once your a level 20 power armoured hulk... you can go around pretty much any town and SLAUGHTER all the occupants. Look! insta-evil! (slaughtering entire towns can be fun, mind you :p)

I'd say that you should be pragmatic over anything else, which generally leads to being a good guy.

Then again, if someone's just paid you for your services and they have good gear, and they're all alone in the Wasteland with you, why not blow their head off in order to get good equipment?

Being 100% is hard, believe me. There are so many characters in the Wasteland that are absolute dicks, and deserve to be shot.

pro for good: Talon mercs drop better loot than vigilantes, including repairs for the Ranger armor.

The evil guys get a hotel suite that looks prettier than the megaton home. That's it really. You don't need the extra caps because you'll swim in caps anyway.

Evil:

Take whatever you want from whoever you want whenever you want.

Good:

Feel all warm and fuzzy inside and make the game more challenging and fun
