Well escapists, I'm starting a Fallout 3 play through with a wee bit o' twist. It's what I dub a hardcore run through. This is essentially my place to document my run as it progresses. But before I can even make the darn file, I need to finish the rules.

So far I have;
-I Can save (In case the game freezes)
-When I'm dead, I'm dead for good
-I can only carry enough ammo for 15 magazines of each type of gun I currently have (E.G. if I'm carrying a 10 mm pistol that gets 10 rounds a magazine, I can only carry 150 10 mmbullets at one point)
-The only exception to the ammo rule is with Energy Weapons-Those I can only carry 500 of Microfusion Cells, and what ever the laser rifle uses..>.>
-I can only use A23 Plasma rifle and Wazer Wifle if I opt to use energy weapons
-I can only carry three guns at all times, minus ones I use for repairs
-I cannot use any followers
-Must discover all locations in the base map (None from any of the dlcs)
-I cannot exceed 200 pounds of combined weight
-All bobble heads must be collected
-Cannot use Ghoul Mask in any metro
-May only use Ghoul Mask if I decided to go with the option of letting the ghouls in and having them slaughter everything
-All energy weapons and .44 magnum ammo must be looted, the rest can be bought.

I figure you guys could come up with some more rules, so if you have any suggestions or just want to predict how my run is going to go. Then feel free to post!

-Drop everything once you exit the vault.
-If you use grenades, you can only carry a few at a time.

How high are you gonna set the difficulty?

No stimpaks can be used for healing limbs? You should have to go to a doctor.

At least that seems more realistic to me.

I'm allowing myself to have the ability to change the difficulty, but I've set it so that it can never dip below normal. I'll start it on Hard, and probably end up moving it up to Very Hard. Oh, and I'm definitely going to do the drop everything after I exit the vault, as for the grenades I've decided to boycott all explosives beside the missile launcher.

Edit; As for stimpaks, I'll compromise and say I can't use them for my legs...because a crippled head gets annoying fast.

As for VATS, I can never take any perk that increases my AP or wear any equipment that does the same. My AP that I get from my SPECIAL Build at the beginning will be what it stays the entire time.

I like the idea! How about you put a limit to stimpaks and other healing items you can use for a certain amount of time. You should also restrain from using certain perks.

You must hunt down all behemoths and kill them. Using ammo in the process.

You must kill any NPC that insults you twice (like outcasts)

Umm... You got to at least kill one deathclaw with a Dclaw gauntlet.

And this is a toughy, you can carry only 15 stimpaks

The Behemoth and limit on Stimpaks is a definite. As for Chemicals, I cannot use any chemicals under any circumstances all chemicals I find must be sold, or dropped on the spot.

That's not exactly a limitation, since that plasma rifle is one of the best energy weapons.

Anyways, I'd say in general that your limitations are good, but some seem kind of arbitrary. Like not being able to buy energy cells and .44 magnum ammo from traders. But hey, it's your iron man run (as I believe these are called sometimes) so you do what you want. Though you might want to just download a mod that adds weight to ammo rather than micromanage your ammo to make sure you never exceed the limit, assuming that part was to make the game more realistic.

EDIT: To make it extra hard, don't take any of the good perks. In fact, use these instead;

2.Black Widow/Lady Killer
3.Swift Learner
4.Scoundrel
5.Scoundrel
6.Scoundrel
7.Lead Belly
8.Entomologist
9.Rad Resistance
10.Here and Now
11.Nerd Rage!
12.Little Leaguer
13.Little Leaguer
14.Contract Killer
15.Lawbringer
16.Chem Resistant
17.Little Leaguer
18.Computer Whiz
19.Infiltrator
20.Fortune Finder

Use those perks (where applicable based on your stats) and you'll end up with one of the worst character builds possible.

Do you have the PC version or console? If you have the PC version, I have some mods that will up the difficulty greatly.

Read some "Dead is Dead" AARs from forums for games like X3:TC for good inspiration of the best way to document your run :D

How about only using clothing that is common around the wastes, as in nothing with more DR than the traders armored coat(forget the name)?

No using the Megaton house amenities (Nuka machine, Chem lab, etc.), Sleeping is allowed.

No weapon construction (I see your Shiskebab blueprints, pal)

And, for a twist, no fast-travel.

Some of my rules are as follows(certain rules for certain characters):

-No traveling at night. This forces me to fight for a place to sleep when the sun goes down. It's extremely fun rushing for a place to stay before the nightfall.(There's also the opposite of no traveling during the day.)

-No fast-traveling. You gotta walk everywhere.

-All repairs must be done by the player, using only looted items.

-All gear(weapons, armor, and ammo) must be found. Nothing can be bought.

-You must gain and maintain an addiction. Seriously. It's fun being the wasteland drunk.

-No stimpak use...ever. Can only heal through eating/drinking, doctors, and sleeping.

-No power armor.

Those are a few of my basic rules.

You walk out of the vault and find the infinite wonder and beauty of the outside world completely overwhelming and you go into a killing rage and slaughter every living being.

Besides that I got nothing, I would suggest you force yourself to find and drink water atleast every day but I'm not even sure where to find water so, if you can do it, go ahead.

How about using a dart gun a lot. I've played on Very Hard mode and used it, and while it doesn't do much damage, it is a good gun and makes it a more difficult challenge.
Wow they sure are generous with the usernames said:
are you going for a really difficult run? Or a really realistic run?
I'm quoting you just to say that I love your username a lot.

I'd make a rule saying you must loot all ammo you need, only use the traders to sell stuff/buy food and medical supplies. Means you'll have to think ahead ammo wise. And you can't have the perk that gives you more ammo from containers either.

Have fun though, it'd be interesting to see how you cope with Old Olney and the Yao Guai Tunnels following those rules. And The Deathclaw Sanctuary, now I remember it.

You have to eat and drink at least twice an in game day.
You can't go more than two or three days without sleeep, except if you are using a lot of chems.
You can't fast travel anywhere, you have to walk or jog there directly.
No reloading if you fail a speech challenge, hack attempt (including Prime's Loot) and lock-pick attempt.
If you decide to carry grenades, you can't carry more than four at a time.
You can carry a knife in addition to your guns.
