I like all the little buildings you can go into in the DC ruins. Most are not marked on your map, so they are difficult to find.

For example, one time I found an old building with a lot of type writers and computer terminals. As I start hacking in, I find that this was a newspaper publisher. all the different articles seen during the loading screens were saved on these terminals, in full detail. Created a really awsome degree of backstory.

when did that happen? I have never found it, and I have 300+ hours on that game.

anyway, in point lookout, in some secluded basement, there is a bunch of cages. in one is a swamplurk, in another, ghouls. not swamp ghouls, regular ghouls. it was creepy when I first found it because I backed up into a corner, and found a deathclaw hand sticking out. now, I hadn't played for at least six months at this point, so I was thoroughly scared so I pressed a switch and the cages swung open. I was expecting the swamplurk to just get cluster fucked, but with just three strikes of it's arm it killed all of the ghouls. from there I just took out my shotgun and put a sucker down.

another is that I have just climbed a damn mountain to get up to this one spot, and after about an hour of climbing and traversing some caverns I looked out and saw what the world had become, and felt proud that maybe I made it better.

There's a huge teddy that you can actually acquire too, it's in the Red Racer factory hanging from the ceiling in a little cart thingy.

It's in the Jury Street Metro as I recall. You can also get a +1 Perception bandana off the raider who built the machine.

That's a nice little find... in the basement in that building is the decapitated man with the key to a toy house in Minefield.

UNfortunately all that's in the Toy House is a few chems.

Most of the stuff I'd write about was already mentioned, so... that leaves the Chinese Remnant Soldiers at Whatshername Food Factory. The first time I went there I was just minding my own business until I hear someone shouting gibberish at me and going "DEATH TO USA!" Was quite funny actually.
That would be Mama Dolce's- The best place in DC to stock up on Chinese Assault Rifles!

Yeah, that's it. It's also one of the best places to get shot by Chinese Assault Rifles. Granted, they go down with a couple of .32 caliber rounds to the noggin, but it stings all the same.

Wow, I can't believe how much stuff I missed. I'm gonna have to re-install the game and do some more exploring.

Yeah, Chinese soldiers are thankfully pretty weak in F3.

I just know those little dudes are jealous of my Xuanlong Assault Rifle...

Yep, and there are hundreds more little bits and pieces that haven't even been mentioned on the thread.

There is a fort (can't remember it's name) out in the Wasteland, that has in its basement a computer from which you can launch nuclear missiles. You get to hear the rumble and the trepidation of the launch, but I never managed to get out fast enough to actually SEE the rockets flying.

I think I've also seen another place that had nukes stockpiled all over the place, maybe a different fort or something, don't remember exactly...

There's also one SatCom array, part of the quest you get from some ghoul schmuck in Underworld. I had to deliver 3 keys to him, then I stole them from his pockets and as I traveled along the countryside I found what they were for: locking a room that controlled a mini-nuke satellite. Unfortunately, I couldn't figure how to fix the machine and if it fired, it only dropped a spread of missiles around the array. I wonder if the satellite relay can be fixed...

Found the alien blaster being used by a random dude, near the super duper mart. It was weird at first glance, since I did not recognize the type of energy weapon he was using (and I did not have the Mothership Zeta DLC at that moment), so I capped him with a magnum and looted his body for the weapon and few alien power cells.

But for me the weirdest things are the following two: first, a named Brotherhood Paladin popping up from nowhere (anywhere from Capital Wasteland and random indoors to the alien mothership) with either a missile launcher or a Gatling laser, running about in a killing spree. Second, it was the ritual mission from Point Lookout - now THAT was some scary sh*t:

exploding Nuka bottles, giggling baby voices, the occasional needle punching through the ground and of course, the upside down forest. It's good you recover your missing brain piece, though.

Either way, I found Fawkes to be tremendously helpful as companion: I barely need to shoot anything once he gets his hands on a nice Gatling laser. And he's a handy pack mule as well - I let him carry all the excess weapons destined to be repair material for my gear:D

I love Fallout 3 and have played the shit out of this game, and one thing that I've noticed, and I don't think I've seen it mentioned, is that there seems to be some sort of Ghoul conspiracy throughout the wasteland. Actually Two ghoul conspiracies. One involves the Ghoul Doctor in underworld trying to cure ...Ghoulism... that ties in with a couple of other ghoul scenarios, as well as the Ghoul conspiracy to contaminate the rest of the Capital wasteland with more fallout. For example, the ghoul scientist at those satellite arrays, and the rest of the ghouls in the Underworld.

Pretty much this.

There's also a holotape near a drainpipe detailing a man's intention to hide out with his wife and child in a drainpipe. When you enter the drainpipe itself, you come to a small hideout with two skeletons lying against a wall of sandbags. The child is nowhere to be found.

Realising what happened to Gary 23 made me a little worried about what would happen if I didn't survive O:A. Then I stumbled onto Vault 108... yeah.
Damn you... i was just about to post a video of the amazing fuck you door

Good, I thought I was the only one that got that attached to our furry companion (incidentally all my human companions died and I didn't even consider reloading the game.
So am I the only one who will stop and praise dogmeat for no reason

That would be Fort Constantine, there is also a Bobblehead for Big Guns there.

Also, the quest with the keys should have ended up letting you into the lower basement of that area, where there is a unique power armour and a buttload of loot.

The power armour isn't all that great though, because you can't repair it with other armours. So it's kind of limited in its usefulness.
