Ok necroing a thread like this is not cool... it was started in October of 2008...

But I really don't think that this could be possible. One of the main parts of Fallout 3 was the feeling of loneliness you get from traveling by yourself and sort of monotony and depression...

Yea I get what your saying Shamgarr, and I agree with you that the lonesomeness is what makes fallout amazing. However I think working together with one other person would be on a totally different level, think about how playing on hard would be so much more interesting, all the different ways you could work together to survive and what not..sharing gear..watching eachothers backs..timing attacks..I think this is one of those ideas that if ever attempted..it will either be amazing..or terrible lol, not much room for middle ground on something like this.

Multiplayer Fallout 3, in any way shape or form? No. There are some games that just don't need multiplayer and are likely better off without them. Like Fallout 3. And Bioshock 2.

I see a lot of people saying vats wouldn't work and im seeing people saying just take vats out. taking it out would be a bad idea because there are a lot of people out there who base their entire character and expirience on vats. Also the skill system wouldn't work. It would be hard to play as a stealth character when you're teamed up with a guy who fires a gatling laser at anything that moves.

Maybe not multiplayer, but I do want something that makes it easy to show my friends where things are. Since I obtained the strategy guide for Fallout and all the expansion packs all my (online) friends are constantly in need of locations and its hard to tell them where a location is "Ok, steve, its just north of the _____ gas station...What? you dont know where that is? Ok...See that road all the way at the west? Go a little north but kind of east" Maybe something where I can jump into their games as a dog and they follow me or something, that would be neat. THE MAIN PROBLEM I SEE WITH FALLOUT 3 MULTIPLAYER IS VATS. It would be odd seeing an enemy freeze and dies in slo-motion.

All the mechanics from fallout 3 put into a MMO would be pretty good, i like the idea of adventuring over the wasteland with my friends XD
They'd have to make the wasteland 100 times bigger though, to accommodate the amount of people who would play the game (if it was any good)

There was actually a multiplayer mod out for Fallout 3 that was supposed to allow that. Worked terribly and it got scrapped, but it was the closest thing to real multiplayer the game will ever have.

I don't think Fallout 3 multiplayer would be very fun, though. Or maybe it would. Who knows?

Isn't fallout 3 a storyline-heavy RPG? Like Bauldur's Gate and ... Fallout?

Interesting to think of how that would work online
Nope, take the story-line and guns of Fallout, and then just add oblivion and you have Fallout 3.

and you guys who dont want co-op in fallout 3, just don't download the mod. how easy could it be?
They are talking about a multiplayer, which does not necessarily mean coop. And we are not talking about a "mod". We are talking about an actual multiplayer, and that would truelly decimate the game.

I believe it's called 'Borderlands'.

I could never understand this obsession with multiplayer. Roleplaying is entirely the wrong kind of genre for that sort of thing. The dialogue and moral choices for a start. You'd inevitably get separated at some point if each player-character was given free rein. If not, the arguements would ensue over what road to take.

Games like Fallout and Oblivion are supposed to be enjoyed on your lonesome, I think. That's what worries me about Bioshock 2's multiplayer. Okay, it's buolt into the story to an extent, but couldn't you just mod, say..Counter-Strike or something to include plasmids? You're not going to be paying attention to the art-deco styling and wonderful dialogue when you're 'fragging', are you?
There are countless games built for that sort of thing from the bottom up.

You'd have to play with friends or 99% of all small children thinking that they are ultra-lulzy trolls would go into VATS and not leave until you swear at them and gtfo.

God no.

I'd hate it.

I relish the lonely, solitary calm that F3 gives me, having a buddy along would utterly break the immersion for me.

Competitive multiplayer would work about as well as an underwater cup of tea.

But placing a certain number of players in the Capitol Wasteland and allowing them to follow the narrative together would expand the experience.

Bethesda's 'BRINK' looks promising.
