When you're out of breath and bullets, the wasteland is the last place you want to be. This was the situation I found myself in as I huddled in the corner of a peculiar room. Covered with grime, the metallic walls showed obvious signs of abandonment, and for some time. My knucles were white as I gripped the lead pipe to my chest. A dull throb caused me to fade in an out, as my blood covered hair stuck to my face. Occasionaly a noise would break the eerie silence, and I did my best not to lose my last thread of sanity, assuming it hadn't abandoned me already. I tried to look back at how I had arrived there, but everything seemed hazy, as if my memories weren't really mine. Finally mustering the strength to stand, I took in my surroundings. I was in a lab of some sort. I know I had never seen this place, and I tried to remember anything that would help me figure this out. Walking over to the wall, I see my own reflection in a mirror. I touch my face gingerly. It was me, but somehow not. It was as if I was looking at another man. I examine my jumpsuit, large numbers printed on my back read "108" in yellow print. In the reflection I see movement from behind me, and seconds later a shot rings out. The bullet penetrates my shoulder and I collapse to the ground, facing my attacker.

"No don't shoot! It's me... Gary!"

the figure stepps from the shadows, and the terrifying realization hits me. "I know..." he said, revealing his startling familiar face.

Win.
BOOM!

"You, me, and every other fucker in this place."

Waking up, bound and tied to a seat in a wreck of a bus with a Radiation King radio playing the song I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire sung by The Ink Spots. A gang of raiders have held Ajax (me) for quite some time. Trying to find his hidden settelment under the rubble of a metro staion, east of the Underworld.

The raiders heard a noise, quickly their attention gazed upon a man in a Power Armor Suit standing before them.

"This one's all alone boys! GET HIM!"

Outmunbered 10 to 1 the man in a Power Armor Suit was sure to fail but with superior fire power and a quick wit, he had made the raiders nothing more than a pack of mumbling mole-rats. They fell one by one to the lasers coming from his rifle. But there was another raider out of sight waiting to make his move. Waiting for the opportunity to strike a killing blow agianst the man in a Power Armor Suit, blade poised for the strike, he see's an opening in the power armour just under the shoulder.

"Watch out!" Ajax cried. Alerting both the man in the power armour suit and the raider. The raider seemed now locked on to Ajax.

"It's all over NOW!"

(that sound a laser rifle makes)

The raider now nothing more than a pile of ashes. Ajax breathes a sigh of relief. Its over.

Saved by the man in a Power Armor Suit,
"Come with me if you want to live" he says "You'll be safe at The Citadel. IF you can be trusted!"

"Don't worry about me. All I need is a place out of the rain".

And so begins the chapter of how a former raider captive was recruited into the Brotherhood of Steel.

But it was not as Ajax predicted, a life of peace, because

War. War never changes.

Each footfall is placed carefully as the young woman picks her way up over a ridgeline in the Capitol Wasteland. The dying daylight offers a dim view of what awaits below.

Evergreen Mills.

Crouching down she slowly crawls the last feet to the edge of the series of short cliffs to avoid skylining as she surveys the area through the scope of a high-powered rifle. Trying to think of something other than just how few rounds remain in the rifle and her spare clips, she softly counts targets.

"One... Two... Three... Four... Five... Six... Six scumbags and a Partridge in a Pear Tree."

It seems the rumors of some over-grown mutie were true. She could hardly miss the massive thing stomping around in the enormous electrified cage standing at the edge of a small trainyard between a large ruined building and a makeshift slave pen. She pulled her head to the side and scanned the compound once more without the benefit of the scope. Sometimes a scope would'nt show you important things... like that glimmer of firelight that just started up in the shacks below and to her left.

"Hello, boys. Enjoy your cookout..." She says softly and smiles, amusement that is not reflected in the cold eyes of a killer for hire.

As she watches, another half-dozen or more Raider scum leave the ruined building and slowly scatter to releive the ones she had previously surveyed, two taking up positions on the top of traincars. She shakes her head and smirks as the majority of the new watch head down the narrow defile where the train tracks run, obviously forgetting that there is always more than one way into a valley.

Scooting back over the lip of the ridge, she quickly strips out of her Regulator Duster and Brahmin-leather Wastelander dusguise, the dimness of twilight providing her with all the privacy a lady needs as she suited up in her Rangers combat armor, the dusky green and tan providing near-perfect camouflage in the darkness and shadows of the Wasteland night.

Walking back to the top of the ridge she looks down at the shadow-cloaked valley. It hardly mattered now if any of those fools below looked up, she would be just another night-shadow among many. The weight of her Pip-Boy is oddly comforting on her left wrist as she checks her silenced 9mm by touch before decending down the step-like cliffs into Evergreen Mills, trying not to think of all the fingers awaiting her knife, and of the rewards to come. The Regulators always paid well for Raider corpses... or at least parts of them.

I had been talking to Mr. Tenpenny on his balcony. We had been up since 6:00am and after breakfast we looked out on the horizon when Mr. Tenpenny held the glass of whiskey away from his mouth and whilst looking out on to the wasteland, never breaking his gaze, he said, "Burke my dear fellow, what is that hideous eyesore in the distance?"

I looked to where his eyes were aimed at and replied, "That's Megaton. It's a scrapheap made in the crator of an unexploded atomic bomb. There's a few people living there but they're not worth anymore than the scrap metal they live in."

He mumbled an inaudible reply. I knew this was going to trouble him so as I aim to make my employer happy I got thinking about the job in hand.

It didn't take long to figure out, though I waited till the next day to tell Mr. Tenpenny of my plan. I knew it would be offending him, that mess on the horizon, so I purposefully waited and avoided him so as I could tell him what I was going to do about it so as to milk him for it later without running the risk of having him tell me that he gave me the job.

When I told Mr. Tenpenny of my plans he was elated; we, along with that fool Gustavo, started working on the logistics and the detonation. It didn't take too long, Tenpenny just mumbled in agreement now and then and I just told Gustavo what I was going to do and what I wanted him to do. The detonator was easy enough, there are some fine engineers in Tenpenny Tower - that's why they're allowed in - and the caps weren't a problem as Allistair Tenpenny is hardly strapped for caps.

The walk did not take all that long, just a few hours along the wasteland. Gustavo wanted me to have an escort but I "persuaded" him otherwise; I didn't get to the position I'm in now without being able to look after my self, not to mention that I'm a damn site more trustful (to Mr. Tenpenny) than that gun-toting clown.

The walk however was not entirely un eventful. I left at dawn - I knew I was less likely to run into a Deathclaw at dawn when the sun is cooler, but I still knew the risk of Yao Guais and feral ghouls etc. It was still fairly dark, the dust had not yet settled from the previous night's wind, and I was having a hard time to see in detail. However, I did catch a glimpse of movement. Raiders. They weren't far off - the dust must have obsured their eyesight more than mine as they paid no attention to me as I crept closer. Chances are they were still half drunk or at least suffering from the nights drinking. "Fucking wasters," I muttered to myself. They still made no sign that they knew of my presence, but still I didn't want to take too many chances. I hid behind a reasonalbe sized boulder about 40 yards from them, close enough to take a shot but far enough to retreat safely if necessary.

I drew my silenced pistol; checked it was loaded; made sure a round was in the chamber. In my right hand the grip, my index finger resting gently on the trigger, my left hand supporting my right, gripping the butt of the pistol. I rested against this rock to steady the shot, aimed at the nearest raider, fired. The sound of the bullet leaving the barrel was almost unpercievable; the raiders didn't hear it, that's for sure. As the round struck home, carving a hole in the back of the girl's head, time seemed to slow, you could almost see the round doing it's job. First was the inital impact, then the head tilted violently up and the body toppled forward, the head hitting the ground last. No-one noticed. I fired again, this time at one of the larger of the group. He was wearing a pair of goggles, though they offered little protection. The round hit home right between the eyes, the goggles broke off in two and a crimson plume sprayed out. Time did not slow this time. The raiders were now well aware that something bad was happening to them and they didn't like it. One came running towards me with a knife in hand and apparently his did not know the saying people who use knives get shot... straight through his throat. Still confused the final raider ran. I din't bother to waste a round on him as by that time he'd gotton just out of range.

I continued on.

I sat in that dank wretched pit surrounded by poverty and scum. I bought a house upon arrival and my time was split between the house and Moriarty's bar. That Irish barkeep maybe be as bad as the rest of them but he has cigarettes, whiskey and of course he has Nova.

It was about five weeks until the wanderer walked in...

"Wake up you fuckin' bigot."

A burning sensation filled my body as I came back into conciousness. I felt like I was on fire, but somehow not allowed to die. Struggling, I realized I was tied to a metal chair. Thats when I rememberd the ghouls. I don't know how they did it, but the bastards had snuck into the hotel, my hotel, in the middle of the night and had killed all my residents.

"Where the hell am I?" I asked, as a symphony of raspy laugher met my question. A ghoul stepped up, a real nasty son of a ***** with less skin than hair.

"Surely you recognize your old friend?" the ghoul taunted, followed by the repulsive laughter of his goonies.

"I don't associate with your kind." I grunted as another wave of searing pain ransacked my body. The pain was now untolerable."What the fuck have you done to me?!?"

Laughter. "I think you'll like our little improvements," the ghoul said grabbing a hand-held mirror and hilding it up to me.

"No... NO! YOU FUCKERS!"

I was one of them now, a ghoul, a monster. Ole' Tennpenny learned the definition of irony that day.

Mid day, sun blazing, shade granted in the form of upcoming town. Not a day I wished to be bothered. Then again, I probably shouldn't have Jynxed it like that.

Walked into old school house. Nuka Cola machine inside. Damned things didn't work so much anymore, but I'm not the type to look a gift horse in the mouth. Broke machine open took a couple drinks.

Movement behind nearest door. My carelessness. No ammo. Things didn't look sagood.

4 of the ugliest looking Mercenaries I've seen walked out. Looks like Ol' Mr. Fancy Clothes put a hit out on me for not doing his bidding. I'd say it sucks to be him, but he doesn't lose any money hiring idiots liek this, long as he doesn't pay upfront.

They surrounded me, about to fire. Time slowed down in my mind to a near halt. I looked around. Thug number 1 would get a punch to the face, Turn around to number 3. Gut hit. Number 2, firing his gun, knock it out of his hands, Then a kick to number 4s shins.

Time restarted, I executed it all in perfect synch. Must've punched 1 a little hard though, His head was like an egg hitting the pavement. #3 got a little wind knocked out of him, seeing as he dropped to the floor. If #2 lives past today, he's got a sudden case of arthritis. #4 simply got his legs bent a way hookers would be jealous of.

Picked up 2's gun off the floor, Unloaded a round into 3's chest, turned and gave 2 and 4 the same pleasure.

Bastards only had a couple bottle caps on em, but some irradiated food and I was a bit famished. A little piece of paper too. The hit order. Just chuckled a bit, crumpled up the paper and threw it on the remains. Mr. Fancy clothes can send all the guys he wants at me.

(I just dramatise this one. So very unreal.)
Also, wouldn't spoiler tags be great if you didn't want to make the page huge?

It's a cold morning in Tenpenny tower.

The dust of Megaton and it's inhabitants floats freely into the air, filling everyone with an uncertainty they can't quite put their finger on.

Not least Mr Burke. An unsavoury character at best, but he was the one to set things in motion.

For it was not his hand that pulled the trigger.

Not him looking down the sights of the smoking gun.

No, it was the poor little girl from Vault 101.

A dubious character, nobody has able to assess her personality.

Many people who have met her have deemed her wonderful.

Others have been found in shreds.

Some say she's a Man Eater.

Some mean it.

Word has been around that she was given the detonator to the bomb, and rigged it to blow.

She alone destroyed one of the last bastions of hope for humanity.

----

That cold morning in Tenpenny Tower, Mr Burke awoke not to warm beverages, not to sunlight, but to alarm.

He awoke in just enough time to hear the death throes of a guard, and rushed out of his room to see what was happening.

All he saw was the dead man lying there, and his assailant hunched over him.

Ghouls had invaded the tower.

Acting quickly, Burke pulled his pistol from its strap, firing off three quick rounds into the ghoul's skull. It fell in to fragments, smattering the floor with bone, blood and sinew.

Without thinking, the best option seemed to be to get to Mr Tenpenny's room, and form a plan from there.

-

'So many dead. Must be everyone. Where is she?'

-

When he arrived at the master's room, the man was nowhere to be seen. Mr Burke was confused. He hadn't seen the body on the way. So where was he?

Drip. Drip. Drip.

The door shut behind him, and he wheeled around at the sharp noise.

Then he saw.

That familiar and semi-friendly face. Suspended on the door. By a rusty railway spike.

Severed from the body, which was stuck lower down. Odd that there were no blood stains.

-

"Hello there, dear."

-

A sharp pain shot into Mr Burke's left hip.

He couldn't move.

-

"You??"

"Yes, Burkey dear. Me."

"You let the ghouls in."

...

"You killed Alistair."

...

"You killed all these people."

"Correct."

-

The lady twisted the blade, as if to make her point, and led him out to the balcony.

They looked down at the courtyard.

30, maybe 40 people, lined up, facing the wall.

The familiar faces of Roy Phillips and his cronies stood facing them. Awaiting an order.

A clicking noise came from behind Burke, and 5 people died.

Another.

10 people.

Another.

20 people.

-

"I get it. I just want to know why."

"Oh I think you know, Burkey."

"Humour me."

"The same reason we kill. The same reason you asked me to blow up Megaton."

"Say it."

"Because it's fun.

"You deceived all of us. Even me."

"Oh yes. And it was very, very easy."

-

And with that, the assailant pulled the blade up, into Burke's Lungs, and his heart.

The story of Mr Burke was over.

-

"Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Galaxy News Radio, and you're listening to Three Dawg, Awoooo! Tonight's top story, and I think it's on everybody's mind, the Vault Dweller! She's helped many, including yours truly, and killed many. Which is more? Who can say? Not I, let me tell ya'. I digress. As I'm sure any of you walking in the Tenpenny tower area, or the metro stations in the area, you will have noticed significant changes. The tunnels lie empty, and the tower, locked. On the surface, nobody goes in, nobody goes out, but if you look real, real close late at nights, you can see a hooded figure leaving the building. As it leaves, it brushes past two very familiar faces. Famous ghouls bigot, Alistair Tenpenny, and famous ghoul, Roy Phillips. Any guesses as to who the figure is? I'll give you a clue. She's got fiery red hair, deep green eyes, and explodes if you rub her the wrong way. Some say she's the devil. Some never live to say. Who am I to judge? All Three Dog's gonna' say about it is if you cross her path, hope she's in a good mood, because as a friend of mine recently found out, she'll do anything for fun.

It was late afternoon and the sun was about to turn in.

I was walking along a bridge after captureing my eighth raider camp.

looking to explore another part of D.C. I took a right turn to get off the bridge only to be greeted by stream of bullets.

I reteated back onto the bridge and produced a scoped magnum revolver, after a quick look through the scope I saw at least three super mutants.

One with a slege hammer, one with an assult rifle, and one with a minigun.

I piched a granade as hard as i could and managed to blow the legs off of the one with the assult rifle, he waisted no time in bleeding to death.

I crouched behind a car and equiped my 44.magnum.

The brute whith the minigun unwisely started sooting the car at near point blank range.

I ran ou from behind my cover but it was too late the car's engin began flaming, a small explosion assured what was about to happen.

A massive explosion erupted from the car, setting off a chain reaction of explosions from other cars parked on the bridge.

one the smoke had cleard, I found myself in he middle of the event. One blast had nearly blown my arm off, and the visor too my blstmaster helmet was cracked.

To my suprise I found the mutant to be barely alive, and franticly trying to unjam his weapon.

I lined up my sights and ended the battle.

I never saw the third one, but if I ever do I'll have an avenger minigun at my side.

"I don't like this Jonas..."

The wind died down and the dust settled as the two men stood before the large metallic ediface. An uneasy aura loomed over the two wonderers and they hesitated to continue.

"Sir, we need the caps, and its a quick, honest job."

Just then the doorway before them was opened and 3 figures stepped out to meet them. The two scientists exchanged glances of apprehension as they eyed the plasma rifles held by there escorts.

"You James?" came the rough voice from under the armored helmet.

"I am." Without further dialouge, the three men motioned for the wanderers to join them within the dark corridor. The footsteps rebounded off the gray walls as they sojourned deeper into the chamber. It was not long before more guards came and joined in the mission, and the two men grew more apprhensive with each step.

"Gentlemen," came a pleasent call. A man, wearing a long orange coat stepped forth to greet them. "Thank you guards, resume your posts." James eyed the man cautiously, but was put at ease as the mob of guards dissapated. "I suppose you know the nature of you're task, being the knowledgable men that you are."

"Actually sir we we're hoping you could further enlighten us." James replied.

"There is a machine," the prestigous man began, "a machine very important to my colleagues and I." He cleared his throat and continued, "unfortunately, its creation requires men with greater minds than what I have in my ranks. Men like yourselves."

They continued deeper into the recesses of the structure, the air now cold and damp. It was not long before they stood before their destination, a door of extensive proportions. "In here, gentlemen, is our machine. I ask that you do your best to repair some of the erroneous components." The door opened slowly as light poured out from the room. Within they could see a large processor, which connected to a screen of equally large parameters. Their escort beckoned for them to begin, and the two men made there way towards the unit.

After a quick examination, the two men were able to assess the machine and diagnose the problems. It was not long after this that they were able to completely restore the computer, and complete their errand.

"Start it up!" James called to his collaegue, who punched the activation switch. A low murmur came from within the console as life sputtered onto the screen. The murmur slowly grew into a discernable sound: a voice.

"I am your president John Henry Eden..."

The two men stepped back from there handiwork as their leige joined them. "Good work gentlemen, as promised here are your caps!"

Exiting through the large doorway and into the dust of the wasteland, the two men were at ease.

"With this money, we can finally start our research on purifying water, our dreams may very well be accomplished!" Jonas said.

"Hmmm, I guess you're right, maybe things are finally starting to work out afterall."

I walked slowly and officiously down the long metal corridor with two Enclave Officers on tow.

The Male Officer Nervously asked " Are you sure you're with the Science Division? I've never seen you working on any other Project before."

I keep the Stupid Idiot happy with a half-assed lie, after all, i don't need their trust, i just need their security access. I walked until i found the door that i was looking for. I then Motioned to the Female Officer to open the door. She had just opened the door when i stealthily pulled out a knife and used it to Slit The Male Officer's Throat while smothering his scream with my hand. She was about to turn around when i pulled out a submachine gun and emptied half the clip into her. I stepped on her body as i entered the door to the Cowering Traitor Sitting calmly on her Chair as if Nothing was Wrong.

"Hello Doctor, i don't really have time to chit-chat right now so i'll give you 2 choices. One you tell me where the Enclave's experimental weaponry is and i'll let you live. On the other hand, in you don't (Placed the barrel of a shotgun to her Head) you'll find out if Gray walls look better with Red or Not."

Then the Coward started speaking. "What happened to you Kane? You were never like this before all this happened. Lying and then killing people just like that. Your Father would be disap- "

"SHUT UP! This from the ***** who left Everyone to these Basterds? This from the excuse of a Human Being Helping The Enclave Kill Everyone? HA! HA! HA! HA!........ Now Doctor give me the Code or Fragments of Your Skull and a Fairly Important Organ Will be splattered across this room for Everyone to See....That is if the Base is still Intact by Then (Noticing The Doctor's shocked Expression). Oh come on Doctor? did you really think that i would leave this many Enclave Basterds alive? No, they, along with "President Eden" will Burn, you know i never thought that AI's were really so stupid."

After half a minute of Hesitation she gives me the Code for The Experimental Weapons Devision. "Thank you Doctor" i said just before i blew her arm and leg of in two shots. Listening to the Screams as i Reprogrammed the Door's lock code i then said to The Dying Traitor.

"Come now. I never said i was going to kill you, i said i would paint the walls red, and That's the FLOOR you're bleeding on. Well Goodbye then Doctor."

I then threw a Live Plasma Grenade at Her then closed the door. The grenade blew. I then Pulled out ac Pre-War notebook and scratched her of The List,

3o minites later....

"Are you sure The Colonel Let you have The Marauder-Class Armory?" said the Enclave Tesla Trooper while i was Admiring the Plasma-Ion Hybrid Pistol. He continued speaking about how experimental and Dangerous The Weaponry was and how Safe The Armor was while i equipped the rest of the Weaponry and Equipped The Armor.

"That's Enough" i said just before i burned a hole through the trooper's head with the Pistol.

I looked down upon the Bastard's Body before pulling out a Enclave Distress Signal and Put it Right Under his Body with a Mini-Nuke set to blow if The Body Moved. With any Luck This along with the Other Dead Sites will Gather Enough Bastards to inevitably Die When The Base Blows.

I started Walking Towards The Exit, thinking that Autumn was the only Bastard Left.

Overseers Log, January 13, 2098.

It was that damn fire-breathing cat again. Last time it was only a nuisance, but this time I was without my trusty scooter, so naturally i had no way of countering it's lazor wiskers. I sent Turner to the surface in hopes of finding a replacement nine iron, and asked him to bring back a bag of ice if he happen upon one. Erin in maintenance found a screwdriver in the bathroom, another sign pointing towards mexican cessesetion. Paula seems to think that I should pay more attention to the monitor, but I don't think there's any reason to worry. I haven't been able to reach vault-tec headquarters in the last few days, but from what they said in their last message, we should be beginning the dillusion gas test here in the next few days. Ugh, its that damn cat again.

This is the Overseer signing off.

I could smell it, yao guai shit, the tunnel reeked of it.
The stench filled my nostrils, it was almost unbearable but I had no choice,
I wanted that last bobblehead.

I don't even know why i want these stupid things, its not like they are worth any caps, but still for some reason, they make me feel stronger.

thats silly,

I press down the tunnel slowly, its dark and i can hear the sound of animal bones cracking under my feet, or at least i hope they are animal bones.

its so damn dark, i would turn on the pip-boy light, but...

even before i could finish my thought it happened, as if somebody had ripped the rug from under my feet, i was falling. i shot my arms out trying desperately to grab a hold of anything. but to no avail. I hit the ground hard, every bone in my body shook, my head was throbing, and i think i broke my leg.

yeah its definitely broken. no matter a couple of stim-paks later its like new.

this shit is great i think to myself.

I pick myself up, dust off my armor.
Leg still hurt a bit, but i had no time to complain.
It had seemed my fall had awoken a sleeping yao guai.

Damn those things are fast, before i could even take out my 50.cal, it was already on top of me. with a single swipe the yao guai had crippled my arm. another swipe another arm gone.

and there i was both my arms crippled, as i lay there, the yao guai finishing off my body i think to myself

Damn, stupid bobblehead,

GAME RELOAD

...fool me once shame on me...

i wasn't about to let that happen to me again,
it was time to get serious..
i kicked open the door to the tunnel. ran down the entrance, slid down where i fell the time before.

"thud-klunk"
that was the last noise those stupid yao guai heard.
as 8 mini nukes shot towards the pack of yao guai i thought to myself

"war, war never changes"
