Fallout 3's "Bad" Ending

I recently replayed Fallout 3 and I realized (or re-realized), why is killing all the Super Mutants in the world a bad thing? Yes, the ghouls die as well but I think those are acceptable losses considering half the Wasteland hates them. It's "the good of the few vs. the rights of the many". Except the few is (I think) most of the wastelands inhabitants. So more like the good of the many (Super Mutant-free Wasteland) vs. the rights of the few (right to live of the ghouls).

Is that truly evil?

EDIT: Okay, I see the problem now. It kills ALL mutants. Didn't know that. Nvm

It kills all mutants. Most people living out in the wasteland are mutated. Really the only people who would be unaffected are people in the Vaults or the Enclave. You'd kill most everypony.

Well, you're exterminating a race that was proven to not be all bad (with Fawkes). I don't think there's many ways to justify killing a sentient species, speaking from the hippies point of view.

Didn't that ending also kill all the waste-landers who'd lived under the influence of radiation for a while? Leaving only the Enclave and Vault dwellers alive?

Including yourself since you're not actually from a vault.

[spoilers=Spoilers] Do you mean the ending where you put the modified FEV in the water supply? That doesn't just kill the super mutants and ghouls. It kills all the people who drink it. Hell, drinking it harms you. It turns the Capital wasteland into a graveyard. [/Spoilers]

I thought you were referring to ending in general. *ba dum tish*

The evil ending is incredibly stupid, putting FEV in the water kills everyone even slightly mutated. Guess what? You were born outside the Vault, you're probably mutated too. Putting the FEV in the water would kill you.

It would kill the entire wasteland aside from the Enclave and the Vault Dwellers. (Which depending on your choices in the game, could be entirely dead.)

Of course, all the evil options in the game are pointlessly stupid and destructive.

There's always the option to just not drink the water. Although it is really stupid that the Enclave is still your enemy afterwards, and that makes the being evil option almost retarded. Especially siding with the Enclave in Broken Steel( the only thing you get from that's a powerful revolver. And is that worth it?)

I haven't finished the evil playthrough of Fallout 3 so I can't comment on the exact details here, but from what I can tell killing EVERY Supermutant is not a good thing. As seen in the other Fallout games, not all Super Mutants are bad, the ones in the Capital Wasteland are uncharacteristically violent. In New Vegas you can see an entire village filled with perfectly reasonable Super Mutants that just want to be left alone. That would be like exterminating everyone in a town to get rid of a gang that happens to reside in there.

It is because who gave you the right to kill ghouls who are just humans that look like beef jerky and sound like smokers. Super mutants (at least the east coast ones) could easily be eradicated my LW. I have enough explosives In my megaton house locker to level vault 72 and assuming super mutants don't respawn I could kill them all by myself. Same goes for feral ghouls but I won't be leveling any sub way lines they're just to useful. I wish they could make that canon. AND SO THE LONE WANDERER AND HIS TRUSTED ALLY FAWKES WIPEOUT FERAL GHOULS ENCLAVE AND SUPER MUTANTS FROM THE CAPITAL WASTELAND. THEY THEN GO ON TO KILL ALL RAIDERS AND START A SMALL ARMY OF DEDICATED WASTELAND WARRIORS. EACH ONE OF THEM FULLY CAPABLE IN COMBAT AND DIPLOMACY SPREAD ACROSS THE WASTELAND CLEANSING LANDS IN THE NAME OF PEACE. OPERATING ALONE OR IN GROUPS OF TWO THEY ARE EQUIPPED AND SKILLED TO DEAL WITH ANY POSSIBLE SITUATION THEY COME ACROSS. EVENTUALLY AFTER DEFEATING CEASER'S LEGION THEY ARE ABSORBED INTO NCR AND THE LONE WANDERER IS MADE PRESIDENT WITH THE COURIER AS HIS V.P. But that kind of story only lurks in the unwritten fan fic in my mind.

Yeah, kills almost everyone, you die in game if you put in the FEV virus and drink too much Aqua Pura.

And I hope it stays there.

Ghouls and everyone who has a mutations of any-kind and considering how much radiation there is floating about that's pretty much the majority of the wasteland (including your character).
Also, don't be a racist just because people don't like ghouls doesn't give you the right to commit genocide. That's the kind of thinking dictators use to justify purges and holocausts.
