Are there any? Because I haven't seen any.

No arrows to the knee, no patrolling the Mojave makes you wish for a nuclear winter, no STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM. Just... nothing.

Maybe I haven't been paying much attention, so I thought I'd throw this question out in the form of a forum thread.
Have there been any Fallout 4 memes? And if not, is it a good thing that there aren't? (Maybe nothing in the game is memorable enough to cause a meme to form around it? In which case, could that be indicative of a 'bland' game?)

Preston Garvey seems to have been memed a bit. Seen a lot of jokes about him really really wanting to tell you about a new settlement thats in trouble.

I haven't come across any. Although I'm the wrong person to ask. I don't exactly keep up with the, err... meme scene?

I don't think it's a bad thing if there aren't. Memes tend to form around memorable ridiculous things rather than memorable good things.

Hell, often it's just things that are driven into the players memory through repetition. Nobody would have blinked at "arrow to the knee" if it was a line you only heard once. Likewise for, well, every one that you mentioned. See also Garrus and his calibrations or "the cake is a lie".

And hey, at least people aren't trying to pull them out of tin air. I remember when Portal 2 came out and for some reason folks were just desperate to find a new "cake is a lie". They tried ever so frantically to turn "exploding lemons" and "spaaaaace" into memes.

Yeah, I guess you're right. I guess it's not so much a case of it being a 'bland' game, but more a case of the game actually having a decent amount of variation to its dialogue (rather than re-using the same small handful of lines over and over again).

EDIT: And I just realized I'm struggling to think of any Fallout 3 memes, so I guess this isn't really out of the ordinary for Bethesda afterall.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that.

I've also seen attempts at making "Strong disliked that." into a meme. Mainly due to how often it pops up from doing the most mundane of activities while Strong is following you around.
Getting in and out of power armor, getting in and out of vertibird transport, taking chems, picking locks, hacking computers, ...you name it, Strong dislikes it.

"Tunnel Snakes rule" was around for a bit, Macready even pulls it out as an easter egg in Fallout 4.

Most of the F4 memes seem to be centered around Danse being Buzz Lightyear, that I've seen.

'Danse Lightyear' and 'Freaky Character Creation' are the only memes I can think of for Fallout 4. You can blame the completely lifeless world for that. No one could even summon the interest to turn Liberty Prime into a Robot American Jesus Meme, which is a shame.

Now that we've sorted that all out, I declare this thread for the First Order.

In addition to those mentioned already, I've seen Preston as Woody in a few places. Doesn't seem to be too popular though.

I would hardly say so. Most games, even popular ones, come and go without generating memes. When games like Portal or Skyrim come along generating a meme like "The cake is a lie" or "arrow to the knee" respectively, then it is really a rare occurrence.

I would say a meme is more a sign that a game had either a hilariously repetitive line (e.g. "arrow to the knee") and/or a major WTF moment (e.g. "All your base are belong to us!"). It isn't a sign of the game's quality. Sometimes, it comes from a complete lack of quality.

This is really the biggest meme to come out of it by far.

Oh wow, turns out Kotaku did an article on it:

I actually had ^that happen to me. The game still apparently randomly selects locations flagged as 'cleared' to send kidnapped settlers to, which of course means the settler will be found there all by themselves with piles of dead enemies all around them.

It's bizarre, and hilarious.

I look at both the Reddit fo4 and Fallout subs, which tends to be the beta ground for new memes. I could tell you some, but first there's a settlement that needs help, I will mark it on your map. /s

All in all the memes for this game tend to be rare and usually negative, picking at the flaws and annoyances of the game rather then just poking fun. I think the only story based meme I know from it is the Brotherhood slogan thing.

Lets make a meme instead.

How about the "Great Fallout 4 Choice and Dialogue"-meme?

Happens to me with Defend this Settlement quests. I'll just walk somewhere vaguely nearby and they complete randomly.
Not just in my first playthrough when I set them up with defenses/guns/armor, and they murderized everything themselves, but in my current one where I completely ignore them and only have them unlocked because I did a quest.

But yeah, I got Prestons perk then banished him off to some settlement on the edge of the Glowing Sea to singlehandedly hold off the armies of nuclear Mordor or whatever
