So I get home after work knowing Bethesda had their day at e3 and I see this:

I immediately get excited until I see how much we have to pay in New Zealand where I live, simply because we live here.

How is the Pip-Boy edition only $119.99 in the US, but in New Zealand they?re asking for $299.99!? This is fucking bullshit! Current conversion puts it at roughly $173 NZD round it off to an even $180 and that would be fine I guess, but this is fucking bullshit!

It's bad enough games come out at $100+ over here, but now we pay basically 3x the price for collectors editions now? I have been a Fallout fan since the first game and a Pip-Boy replica is something I have wanted for a long time, sorry, needed to get this off my chest. Why do they do this to us over here in NZ? Australia pays a bit more, but we still pay $100 more after conversion from them

Why do they do this to people in different regions?

EDIT: After finally getting more information on the thing, I'm not going to bother with it, it needs a smart phone and app etc' I was just hoping it would work on its own for that price.

Damn, sorry to hear about that. Hopefully in the 5 months leading up to the game they will drop the price. Thankfully where I live it's only ?129.99 so it will take maybe a month of saving up money to buy.

That's still over $200 of our dollars, that's not as bad, but still bad :( The worst part is I'm still considering preordering to get it... Damn nostalgia etc >_<

<_< how much of that is shipping? Because depending on the math, someone could make a killing as a courier...
That's before local shipping. Shipping would about $3-5 ish.

I'm probably going to end up buying it because I'm a sucker like that... But I am going to try find a cheaper way to do it if I can. I have a few friends in the US, maybe one of them may be willing to buy it, keep the game and I pay the difference and shipping to get the special stuff.

EDIT: After finally getting more information on the thing, I'm not going to bother with it, it needs a smart phone and app etc' I was just hoping it would work on its own for that price.

If it's any consolation, just look at how grotesquely HUGE that thing is!
One size fits all primates, especially silverback gorillas.

I'd really like to know how it's supposed to not wiggle around like a jellyfish when you move your arm slightly, never mind trying to actually use it.

Perhaps I'm mistaken. I think the unit is just too low on the guy's hand. It shouldn't cover the wrist entirely, right?

Don't worry, once scalpers get their hands on this thing you won't have to worry about not buying it. It'd be nice to have, but guaranteed they're making them in limited quantity and they're all gonna be reserved before launch and on sale within the day of launch for double the price.

Well no, but attaching stuff to your forearm isn't exactly simple, especially big, unwieldy, heavy things like that. Unless it's got inflatable cushions or something inside, like one of those old-school pulse meter thingies, but that would get very uncomfortable very fast. Just can't see how it stays fixed, basically, no matter where on your forearm you put the thing.

That's true about the fit. However, I have used this thing in the past, the Motorola WT41N0, which uses two wide, Velcro straps:

The person in the photo is wearing some sort of padding; there's a plastic plate underneath with rubber attached to it. Even though the fit can be customized, it's still very tight around your wrist, if you want to keep it from flopping around that is. This isn't a bad starting point though. I might save the $60 and start a fund to make my own PIP Boy.[/QUOTE]

That's actually cool though. Still, it's considerably smaller than the pip-boy, and chances are it's had more thought put into it than any publisher's willing to put into the collector loot.

It could be because of taxes or pricing standards. It's more probable to be in the NZ side of the deal.

I pre-ordered this last night immediately after the press conference was done. Not only is it my first pre-order ever, but also my first special edition ever.

No, I'm not obsessed with Fallout games or anything. ;) And with mods coming to the One? Double trouble, babes!

I hope it is worth it for you, and I mean that sincerely :)

I can't find anything pertaining to that, and trust me, for years we have had this problem and there doesn't seem to be a formal reason outside of, they charge that price, because they can.

Where did you Pre-Order? I called my local Game Stop and Smyth's but they don't even know when the pre-order for the Pip Boy will be up.

Sorry, this is about NZ costs. I will wipe the drool off my chin.

I would suspect it's the same deal as the Australia Tax." At one point, the dollar was weaker compared to the US dollar and things like games cost more. Then the dollar got stronger and people kept being charged more "just because." People are used to paying it, so companies which are less than scrupulous will charge it. I think that would fall under "pricing standards."

I still think I'd take paying extra for my games over paying extra for my hospital bill, though.

When I looked it up before, it was listed as 189 AUD. But Vault...I never knew you were interested in Fallout!

It was on Amazon within minutes after Bethesda's presentation ended. The link to the shopping cart from the item listing was broken for about five agonizing minutes, but that sorted itself out fast enough. :D

Well, it's about time they took their most well known legacy item and gave us an actual version.

Maybe wearable tech is the future, maybe not, but this will a fun do-dad. Immersion for the win, and my left arm aches.
