Yeah. I'm late to the party by quite a bit. So shoot me with a Wattz. I just bought these games a few minutes ago,on a lark,to see the origin of Fallout 3 and New Vegas. I saw a few episodes of a Let's Play of Fallout 1,and liked what I saw. So,I decided to buy and install them via Steam.

And the game looks like it's on LSD. The cinematics are REALLY colour-warped,and the main menu splashes (didn't even click play yet) are slightly colour-warped. Any solution to this? It;s probably something stupidly easy or obvious, but I really don't want to break anything.

Uhhhh, verify the game caches? Other than that, have you contacted Steam support? They should help you with this type of problem.

This probably has something to do with the colour settings for the OS,as the original Fallouts are very old games and probably run on a simpler colourset. Now,the thing is that I don;t know how to much with that on Windows 7...

How would I do that? I never had to do such a thing.
If you're running a version that has the high resolution patch installed, it'll be in the options menu. Just put up with the rainbow colors long enough to get to the menu, and switch it to 32 bit color (which the high res patch adds.)

If your copy didn't come with it pre-installed, you'll need to download it.

The reason this happens is that the Fallout games run on 8-bit color by default. Windows 7 (or more accurately, Aero) does not play nicely at all with 8-bit color, and it doesn't work especially well with 16 bit color, either.

Alright, this may or may not be a stupid question, but do these patch mods work with the Steam version?

I believe you right click on the Desktop and go to Display settings and set the color options to 16 bit. It should be somewhere in the display settings if it's not where I said.

Hope I helped, and have fun. :)

Apparently the answer is "yes, but you have extra hoops to jump through."
